Is religion the new homosexuality?

The Islamic Terrorists are not helping religion in general. Their extreme acts of violence in the name of their religion just make many people question religion in general.

Seriously? How can you equate gay rights with that Horus and Mithras gibberish? Those posts about Horus and Mithras were loony, you (it was you, right?) kept bringing them up on different threads and different posters kept telling you that your attempt to link them to Christmas was historically innacurate. You seemed like a small child who keeps trying a failed strategy because you don't have anything more intelligent to bring to the table. Your posts weren't great monents for atheists.

Well, my step-sibs in the midwest believe that Christianity is seriously threatened here in the US and world-wide. Their daily local and world view is through the lens of evangelical beliefs and all that entails. It's a war as far as they are concerned. That's a big reason why these Tea Party types keep winning.

OP here. I wish the first person complaining about the Horus/Mithras poster had never brought it up. That person, who shows up on other threads complaining about atheists discussing Horus and Mithras, is bothersome. It seems weird to bring up a subject you don't like over and over again -- and then complain when others join the discussion.

Ah, the Horus-Mithras-Christ connection!

This was originally brought up by an atheist poster who insisted that December 25 was the birth date of both Mithras and Horus. That was thoroughly blown out of the water on grounds of historical inaccuracy.

The poster then insisted that Mithras and Horus shared similar features with Christ, and other posters pointed out that it was actually Osiris who was resurrected by Isis picking up all his dismembered pieces. His penis was missing so she made one of gold so she could get impregnated with Horus. I dunno--doesn't sound much like the Christ story to me--and Isis clearly was not a virgin.

Then we have Mithras, an ancient and vague Persian god, whose cult persisted on the western fringes of the Persian empire and was picked up by Roman soldiers after the death of Christ. Many theories about Christian beliefs perhaps informing Mithraism rather than the other way around. Mithras was said to be born from a rock, which I guess earlier PP relates to virgin birth. Am surprised PP didn't equate Athena as well to Christ as she was hatched from Zeus's head.

Meh. Since this thread has been wrecked anyway, I'll jump in to add that the Horus Mithras poster is a known atheist whackadoodle/troll. Therefore you might as well use "Horus Mithras poster" as any other appellation. I see another PP has just gone to the trouble of debunking that nonsense again - for the 4th or 5th time - because the Horus Mithras poster is incapable of learning, doesn't want to learn, or, most likely, is a troll. Either way, it's fair to say that she's doing no favors for atheism's public image!
