Lots in Takoma Park/Silver Spring. |
Rosemary Hills is very nice, good schools, and I know SAHMs there. But I live near the Forest Glen Metro where there are also lots of SAHMS. |

I'll second this. I am a SAHM and have been for three years and the playgrounds in CC/FH are wall to wall nannies during the weekdays. Have only gotten to know other "simpatico" SAHMs through friends, preexisting social network, which was tough since we were later to have kids. |
My bet is there are more SAHms in more affordable parts of the D.C. area -- hence the Loudon county and Silver Spring ratios.
It's too expensive in Bethesda/CC to survive on one income, unless that one income is very high. I'm in Bethesda and there are no SAHMs in my neighborhood. OP, why don't you join a MOMs group? I think MOMS international has several Bethesda chapter and it is a group only for SAHMs. |
I live in Au Park and seemed to see no SAHM's until about two years ago, when my DD was about three. Seriously. I also think I was not looking very hard... |
Silver Spring, Kensington and Takoma Park. I live in Capitol View Park (between SS and Kens) and there are tons of SAHMS here. SAHMS without nannies. The Takoma Park Library and the Noyes Library for Children have great story hours that are well attended by SAHMS. Also, Mayorga Coffee House in SS used to have a kids music hour (I think they still do) that had lots of SAHMS. Good luck - you are not alone! |

I live in AU Park and have 2 friends in CC DC, we always comment on the number of nannies everywhere. |
I totally agree with this posting. We moved farther out to the burbs so I could be home more (PT work) we just could not swing me gearing down my income closer in. I'm out in Loudoun and there is no shortage of SAHMs. I hardly ever see nannies, they are the exception not the rule. There is so much do join/do during the day with other mom's you really have your choice of quite a number of activities and groups to meet other moms and kids the same age. |
I am SAH in CC DC and that is 100% true. It is completely isolating here as a SAHM, we are planning to move as soon as the market turns. |
I live in Silver Spring near Forest Glen, just north of the beltway. There are a fair number of SAHM's in my neighborhood, and tons of kids. |
Also agreed. Moved to CC DC (from out of state) in July and stayed home with 3.5 yo until Dec. No one but nannies anywhere - we stalked the parks, but didn't make any permanent friends. Where were you folks when I needed you!?! ![]() Alas, I went back to work last month FT. |
I'm in AU park as well and know very few other SAHMs. Most of my friends who are home during the day are in other parts of the city and with 2 toddlers, it's difficult to connect. Would any other SAHMs or part-timers in AU park/Chevy Chase DC like to get together or get in contact?

I used to be a SAHM (now working) in the Forest Glen area of Silver Spring and I agree with PPs re: Silver Spring. I'm just now realizing how fortunate I was to have other SAHMs around (who I rarely see since I now am at work all day)! |
