I think mostly these posters are being a bit melodramatic about the importance of being in a good school zone; there are lots of places in DC with questionable schools but stable home prices. But I will echo the general sentiment that you should buy some place you don't mind being for slightly longer than you project. (E.g. if you hope to stay in this house for only 5 years, still try very hard to find a place you won't mind living for 10 years). |

Transactions costs. Not cheap to buy/sell/buy move. Also, time will fly by. 6% realtor fees on $600k house is $36,000. Money immediately lost to you when you turn around in a few years to sell. |
