John McCain cheated on his first wife with Cindy and with numerous others allegedly

As a side note, I don't think this kind of talk has a place in politics. I am a lesbian and what rights I have are fair game for people to vote on, which is hateful and discriminatory. I suppose I could be hypocritical and think that gives me the right to pass judgement on the sex lives of others, but that would undermine my beliefs about privacy.

Let it go.

Not the PP and not a lesbian, but speaking up in support of her viewpoint. As for the McCain infidelities, they are old news (both literally and figuratively) and hardly secret. It's actually well-known information, I think. That history was prior to McCain entering public life; the Edwards news was in fact news because (a) he was doing it while he was running for president, (b) he ran in large part based on his image as a loving husband, (c) he lied about having done it, and (d) the mainstream media acknowledged that they knew the allegations were likely true but they refrained from publishing the information out of deference to Elizabeth Edwards.

As a Democrat, I'd say we have plenty of differences with John McCain. Why don't we focus on those and not on his infidelities of 30 years ago?

You are kidding right? For the last week I've read comments on this board about Sarah Palin that have little to do with her ability to govern or her views. My personal favorite was the criticism of her children's names. Democrats...high road...what a joke! High road as in last nite when your people protested in the middle of McCain's acceptance speech? It's one thing to protest outside and force hundreds of cops to babysit your asses instead of serving their community, but it was completely disrespectful to interrupt his speech.

So why do we place on public spectacle the personal lives of the Dems but not the hypocritical Reps?

I'd say the point is that if the Republicans had this sort of information about McCain, they'd be incessantly preaching about his lack of family values, poor character, etc. As usual, the Democrats take the high road and don't delve into those sorts of things and start mudslinging - for better or worse...

If the GOP knows about McCain affairs, you better believe the media & DEMS would too and there would be stories NOT about rumours but interviewing the former girlfriends! The DEMS didn't publish stories about Bill, the media and GOP supporters did. It is naive to think that these stories with names attached are out there and being quashed.

Bill Clinton didn't have a 4 day convention on his "character" however McCain did. That is the point. They are running half of his campaign on his character and who he is. I think leaving his disfigured wife for Cindy shows his character.

Get a clue. They are all running on "character" its what all elections are about.

McCain was near the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy, and his nickname was "Punk." He had very few friends.

Irony, I hope?

Your great hero, Teddy Kennedy, left a woman to drown in a car thirty years ago and it didn't stop the leftists at your convention from doing a special segment on what a great American he is.

Excellent point.

That's because Clinton's could not have run for 4 days....a number of minutes perhaps, but surely not days.

Not really, because you're missing the point.

Yes, but the Republicans are concerned with what you are doing with yours. Which is what makes them such unbelievable hypocrites. "Do what I say and not what I do"--Palin will be right at home!

Do any politicians not cheat on their wives? So far Obama is clean, right??? Please say so!

"You Republicans......"
"You Democrats......."

Perhaps this is where our problems really begin. Too many people are way too busy pointing fingers. Why not work together and try and come up with real solutions that work.

I am registered with one party, but that doesn't mean that the party totally represents me and my beliefs. I have never voted down party lines, and have always gone into the voting booth without being as educated as I can be about what both sides truly represent. I weigh the pros and cons and make the choice I fell is better. This doesn't always mean the candidate that is affiliated with my party.
