Do you wish your Honda Odyssey had AWD?

My '11 Odyssey seems fine in snow and ice, but I'm not out flying around at 65 mph in that weather anyway. We do live on a hill. Had a series of 4WD cars before this one, most recently a pilot.

OP, it's basically the same car as the Odyssey, why did you not choose AWD? Just curious.

OP here. I haven't chosen anything yet. I like the look of the Odyssey better than the Sienna (not a lot but a little), but I would prefer AWD. Based on the PPs, I will probably end up going with the Sienna, although I am going to do some checking on the Sienna's run flats. Perhaps issues with run flats are tire/car specific. The car I have now is known to have issues with blowing the run flats, which I have obviously experienced. Thanks all!

This is an interesting thread. We're a Honda family and have moved up the chain from the Civic to our Pilot and I really love the look of the new Odyssey. We were planning on buying one later this year... but this makes me a little nervous (no AWD feature). Our CRV and Pilot have both had AWD.

You're serious? Honda and Toyota are the same. I know cars. They are the same. You are getting no deal by leaning one way or the other. Making an irrelevant point, perhaps, but that is about it.

WTH are you blathering about? Who's talking about any "deal" or making any "point?" It's a question about how two minivans by two different manufacturers handle in ice and snow. Based on the responses of some PPs, they handle quite differently. That is a legitimate reason for leaning one way or the other.

Got a 2011 Sienna. Love it, but missing the AWD. It handles terribly in snow and rain. In fact, it peels out starting at an intersection when the road is completely dry in August. The paint on the crosswalk makes this thing chirp. No joke! Other than this, we love everything about the Sienna. Also have a 2011 Highlander. It's fantastic in any conditions. Hoping this ends up being true of the AWD Sienna.

We just ordered a 2013 Sienna and went with the Sienna over the Odyssey because of the AWD. I've always had cars with AWD or 4WD and have a job where I have to be able to get to work, unless there is a major snowstorm. So I anticipate needing to use it for the one or two small storms we get each year. I agree that the Odyssey looks better, but the Sienna also is available with the push start (and you can unlock the door without taking the keys out of your bag). I've had that feature in my car for several years, and it is great when your hands are full with kids and your keys are somewhere at the bottom of the diaper bag. I'm not excited to make the switch to the minivan, but we need the space. I'm hoping the practicality of it makes me love it as much as everyone on here says they love their minivan!

We have a 2011 Sienna Limited AWD. Love the AWD; it goes right up our steep driveway even when it is iced over. I do not like the reclining seats with footrest in the second row though. If I had it to do over, I'd get a Sienna XLE AWD. No problem with flats.

I think my Odyssey handles fine in snow and ice. And on a daily basis it handles much better than Sienna.

Odyssey is better in snow and ice. Probably not as good as AWD. Better gas mileage without AWD.

We have an Odyssey and have no interest in AWD. The only time I had trouble was in the huge snow of a couple years back and that was a problem of ground clearance, not front wheel drive.

When people get stuck in the snow/ice around here, it's usually because their tires are terrible or they are going WAY too fast for conditions. In my life in beltwayland, I see little need for AWD.

No matter what you do, get some decent tires. If you're serious, get a second set of rims with snow tires.

I've had no issues with my '12 Odyssey (not even in the rain or any of the other issues that PPs have had). We've had several AWD vehicles before we bought the Odyssey so it was a consideration, but we just liked the Odyssey better. We've had several Hondas, loved the look of the Odyssey and it ended up cheaper than the Sienna with the options we chose. Not having AWD hasn't even been an issue.

The Oddysey has less power and a weird transmission.

We have an Odyssey and have been very disappointed in the gas mileage. I can't even imagine how much worse it would be if it had 4WD

Haven't had many issues on snow and ice with my Odyssey, but again I don't drive that often in those conditions.
