Do you wish your Honda Odyssey had AWD?

Anonymous
We are in the market for a minivan. I will be the primary, daily driver. I prefer the look of the Honda Odyssey, but it is not available with AWD (unlike the Toyota Sienna). How does your Odyssey handle in the snow/ice? I have AWD on even the small car I drive now so moving to a larger vehicle without AWD makes me a little nervous, but maybe I'm overemphasizing it.

Yes, terrible in snow and ice.

I drove a Subaru before my Honda Odyssey. I cannot believe how bad the Odyssey handles on snow and ice. I've gotten stuck many times, can't get up my driveway in very mild conditions. It's horrible.

Never missed it.

Yes this. We test drove the Odyssey and went with the Sienna. Like you there was something I liked a little better about the Odyssey but my husband had drove a friend's Odyssey in the snow and skidded - he was adamant about having AWD on every car.

We went with the Sienna AWD. FYI - at least when we were buying, the Sienna AWD only comes with run flat tires because there is no room for a spare tire w/ AWD. Run flat tires are about $1k for all four and you go through them every 35k-40k in mileage.

I think of the Odyssey as the cooler of the two (for a minivan, so grading on a curve here). I think the new Odyssey is actually less attactive than the old one, or than the current Sienna.

In any case, we went for function and got a Sienna. It's fine.

I love my Loser Cruiser.

Horrible in snow and ice, especially if it is just a thin snow coating on ground.

OP here. I did not know this (we're just starting to look at the details of each). I have run flat tires on my current car, and I hate them! Not as much because they wear more quickly (I don't put a lot of mileage on my car), but because they are so much more susceptible to flats (I've had 4 flats in the last 2.5 years). Have you had any issue with frequent flats on your Sienna? I had so been looking forward to getting rid of those run flat tires...

Odyssey horrible in ice or snow. Horrible.

I have an Odyssey and with the amount of snow we get here I haven't had any issues. I will say I have noticed some minor skidding when I brake in the rain at stop signs.

I thought I hated MV's - and I never thought I would say this - but I LOVE our Sienna!!!!!

OP, it's basically the same car as the Odyssey, why did you not choose AWD? Just curious.
