Did Kara Kennedy smoke?

I'm not really an admirer of Ted Kennedy, although I think he tried to make amends for the tragic drowning of Mary Jo, but your post is nothing but offensive and inappropriate.

OP here, I think that the family should use this as an opportunity to remind young people about the dangers of smoking.
Apparently TK did not want to talk about her smoking.

Yep - just like Amy Winehouse - so many addicts die from their addictions. I agree it is an opportunity for public education.

Radon is also a huge cause of lung cancer - if you haven't gotten your home checked, makes sense to do so. (Not saying it is relevant in this case, but a friend's mom who never smoked recently died from it.)

What are these wonderful things, I can't think of any?

The Special Olympics, for one. Years and years of public service.

Yes, the Special Olympics is a good thing that came out of that family. But I credit Eunice Shriver, who was traumatized by the prefrontal lobotomy done to her "out spoken" sister Rosemary Kennedy. This treatment left Rosemary in a vegetative state for the next 63 years.

I forgot to add, Mr. Joe Kennedy Sr. allowed this lobotomy to be done to his daughter. This is what the "Kennedy"curse is all about.

It was standard procedure to do a lobotomy to anyone with any unusual personality traits. Yo cannot judge Joe Sr. harshly for this.

Any woman.

Not so, in 1941 lobotomies were new and had only been done a few times, and NEVER on a mentally retarded patient (as Joe said she was). That would have been considered malpractice even at that time. The truth was she was not as bright as the rest of the kids, and she was a shame to her father, so he listened to some quacks and let them stir the brain of his beautiful 23 year old daughter. Joe also chose never to visit her during the rest of his life. So yes, I will judge him harshly. Please read about lobotomies before you go so far as to say they were "standard" procedure. And while you are at it, google Rosemary's story, you will look at Joe Kennedy a little differently.

We are big fans of the Kennedy's and my husband interned for Ted Kennedy in college. They have certainly done so much for the most vulnerable in our country. This is a sad day, indeed.

My heart goes out to Kara's children.

He had this performed without Rose Kennedy's knowledge or permission!

Some of the most caring and hard working people smoke! Smoking is a terrible addiction not a moral issue! So, me asking if she smoked isn't disrespectful to her family and children! My father died from Lung Cancer at 52 when i was 17 years old!

it seems to me that all sports clubs should keep a defibrillator on the premises.

They may have had one. But if she was in the steam alone--no one would have gotten to her in time to use one. It is so sad. She had overcome a lot in her life. She was a great, beautiful person.
