In this case, they don't. These aren't the anti-war protests of the 1970s. These are protests about a country and a region on another continent that we are not directly involved in.

Students can ask schools to "divest" and schools won't. Where are the political implications?

It's fascinating how you continue to live in denial, believing that you're seeing the "worst case scenario" that will emerge from these protests. The President of the only world superpower will lose his job due to this crisis. University presidents will lose their jobs due to this crisis. A reorganization of worldwide support is happening right now but yet to be seen, which will change the dynamics in the ME and the U.S. for decades to come. Keep shoving your own head in the sand.

Undergrads who graduate this year had their high school graduations canceled 4 years ago during Covid.

Now USC canceled its main commencement ceremony b/c of security concerns related to campus unrest.

That's 5,000 undergrads who don't get a high school or college graduation.

This. By the way, Hamas is still holding hostages. Lest OP and her habibtis forget.

The University of Southern California has canceled its main stage graduation ceremony, citing safety concerns.

This comes as large pro-Hamas protests have been taking place on campus resulting 93 arrests thus far.

I imagine most graduations on liberal campuses are going to be disrupted.

I’ve been busy all day. Has he made any statements?

He steps down or the DNC forces him out at the convention. Any 55yo or under is guaranteed to win.

I think it's very sad for most of the students who did nothing wrong, but it's ultimately a good thing for US colleges. USC is a weird school anyway (see the Dean of school of medicine scandal a few years ago, US News scandal...). It'll be a warning to other schools that tolerating extremist messages on campuses will mean disruptions neither donors nor families will appreciate.

How old is Kennedy?

Hamas has nothing to do with this. A Muslim valedictorian was denied a chance to speak due to pressure from pro-Israel groups. It seems Islamophobia is totally okay. But anything deemed “antisemitic” must be shut down immediately.

Quick question: in the US, how many hate crimes do Jewish people commit?

Answer: zero.

Jewish people may be touchy and oversensitive about antisemitism - but they aren't violent. So it's not a bad thing to protect them from violence and harassment.

I guess if you keep your head in the sand you can say that. Does not make it true.
THE DEPARTMENT OF Education’s Office for Civil Rights has opened an investigation into the University of Massachusetts Amherst in response to a complaint that alleges that the school took months to address the harassment of Palestinian and Arab students.

In the previously unreported civil rights complaint, 18 students said that they have “been the target of extreme anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab harassment and discrimination by fellow UMass students, including receiving racial slurs, death threats and in one instance, actually being assaulted.” The result, the students said, was a hostile environment for all Arab and Palestinian students, those perceived to be Palestinian, and their allies on campus. Among the most chilling allegations involves a student yelling “kill all Arabs” at fellow students protesting Israel’s war on Gaza.

There are Jewish groups that are spin off of the right wing and use agitators to attack peaceful protesters. This will have a huge backlash against the right. This is just more of their anti minority anti DEI push. Funny how Jews benefited from DEI and now want it gone.

I just wonder how long the pro Israeli neo nazi coalition will last.

Yes these pro Israel groups must be shut down and their members expelled. Long past time to remove these extremists.

Israel is extremely violent and has been accused of hate crimes. What you are saying is nonsensical

If these protesters think getting universities to cancel graduation ceremonies - and these are the same kids that missed out on their high school graduation - is going to somehow get Americans to support their cause they are a trifle delusional.

I'm sure they have all sorts of excitement planned for the Democratic National Convention too. No doubt these progressives will feel so proud of themselves for reelecting Trump.

You should step away from social media and back into reality.

Yeah, the president of Harvard got herself fired.

Biden? Only loons on the DCUM Politics Forum see him getting fired for this.

Anyone can accuse anyone else of anything. Pro-palestinian activists love to make false charges of discrimination when they are the ones guilty of at least hate speech if not also actual violence.
