Hail to all our Bruin Warriors,
Sons and daughters lead the way,
Who we are and what we stand for makes us proud today,
Fight! Fight! Fight!
Westwood is the home for Bruins,
L. A. is OUR town!
Ready for the test we’re the best team in the West,
Future Champions we’ll crown.
U-C-L-A! Fight! Fight! Fight!

I would pick USC over every school you mentioned.

You proved my point. USC folks aren't very bright.

UCLA folks can only some old anecdotes to try to drag down USC.
USC has raced far away.

Good lord. No one cares about UCLA. Especially OOS. Start your own thread.

No one cares, except more applicants than any other college or university in the world! Never change, UCLA rejects!

In-state, sure, would have to consider Ucla over Usc due to cost. Oos, harder to pay private school $ for the public school in the same town & similar rep & opportunities. Toured the SoCal schools, Ucla has a beautiful campus & of course rep-wise is a great school. Compared to Usc, Ucla felt like a more overall introverted student-body. Felt like a much greater number of socially-awkward(?)kids in comparison to Usc. From tour-guide to office-staff, employees, students, purchasing food & merchandise on campus, interactions were consistently considerably more positive & friendly at Usc. Perhaps semi-silly reason to choose one school over the other, but certainly was a factor & did make an impression on my extrovert-leaning dd(earlier posted that she chose Usc over Michigan & Emory. Had no interest in applying to ucla after her experience from her visit).

You must be smoking that South Central herb. LA is our town. You USC people get so triggered.

National Titles: UCLA 121/USC 113

USC was easily one of the top 2 college tours for us. The other was not in California.

Growing up in LA in the 70s and 80s, USC always had a good reputation for it's professional schools and grad programs (at least locally). Always had a great reputation for the arts not just film (the band still plays tusk by Fleetwood Mac). Even the most die hard trojan has to admit that undergrad was mainly for rich B level students.
I think today to me, it seems like they have a dual personality. I think the administration would like it to be UChicago. Starting in the late 90s (?), they started raising a lot of money and hire away a lot of high level research faculty for other schools. I know that UCSD sued them over this. They give a lot of money to minority students and high stat kids. A significant part of the student body and large part of the alumni would like to be like the 70s when all that matter was how the football team was doing and how much family money you had. It seems like money talks at USC more so than other schools. High status Kids are the ones that can fly in the private jets to Cabo or cruise the Caribbean on the yacht. I think all of Rich Caruso's kids went there.
It is a great school, just have to go in knowing it is more money status driving than their peer school.

I dont see how this translates into Wall Street, Consulting, Big 4, FAANG employers. Nor have I seen the increased selectivity trickle through to law, medical / b schools. Dont see USC people in the seats of power other than entertainment.

Maybe this will change over the years, but still think of it as a rich kids school for those who want to rub elbows with other USC alumns.

I hire for an elite Finance firm - not on our radar screen. Peer schools are Tulane and Miami. Fine schools but serious students don't choose to go there for undergrad unless they want fun, sun and football. Exception is Cinematic Arts.

Maybe one day this will change.

You’re living in the past. And you clearly don’t know any current students, certainly not many of them.

I think that is an east coast centric way of looking at it. Most USC grads are going to be staying in California.

I have several nieces and nephews currently going to USC and many alumni in my family so I do know what I am talking about. Believe me or not, there is significant part of the study body that only care about your family's wealth, what car you drive and where you go on vacation. They were quick to cancel the valedictorian speech (even if it was right) because they were scared about losing out on some money. Some committee (hope they have tenure) decided this was the best person to speak out of 100 possible people, but once they got wind it may piss off some big donors they were quick to cut it off. Dual personality. They tried to buy people off to cover up multiple scandals. Offered LA Times editors some teaching positions to kill investigation of their out of control medical school dean. Read the varsity blues documents. Same old SC, no matter how much you defend it.

They were smart to cancel the speech, would have ruined graduation. Otherwise, you sound, as we say on DCUM, unhinged.

You are very wrong.
USC is highly ranked and strong in CS, Engineering, Business, all those hard core fields and higly regarded by employers.

We live in Los Angeles. To attend USC you either have to be extremely rich or extremely poor. Nothing in between.
