USC (Southern Cal not South Carolina) - What has really changed?

Anonymous
So financial aid has improved
This and many other schools have become test optional
It is now "red hot" with over 80,000 applicants
3.9 GPA - average unweighted

But are the outcome different. Has this school really improved in the eye of employers and graduate schools?

Still seems like a place to party and the only elite school is Cinematic Arts.

Dont hear of graduates regularly getting elite consulting, banking and other jobs. Nor do you see them in the highest rank grad schools.

Tell me how I'm wrong?!?

You are wrong. USC has an outstanding Journalism School and an excellent business school which many list as a semi-target school for IB. But, most importantly, USC is now part of the Big Ten Conference which means more money & greatly enhanced research opportunities.

Nothing wrong with partying and having fun, so long as you have a job (or grad school) lined up at graduation. My kid is headed there this fall and I sure hope there are a variety of fun activities on campus and in LA.

I still remember when this school had an 80% admit rate in the 80s. I had no idea how selective it got until the Varsity Blues scandal and celebrities were paying $500,000.00 to bribe their way in. At first, I was I was like, "they are doing all of this for USC?!" Because I still had the mindset of the 80s, I felt like it was synonymous to someone bribing their way into Mason or JMU.

USC is an incredible school. Way back when it was meh with low selectivity. A lot of the older crowd remembers it that way. But it is far different now. Being in a major warm weather city with an awesome alumni network helps. Many schools are a far different profile than when boomers were in college...think BC, Florida, Northeastern, Georgia, UC Davis, etc

Not sure. DD just chose USC over Michigan & Emory. Weather, location(w.coast/la), seemingly work-hard/play-hard vibe, allegedly strong alumni network on w.coast, feels like a tough admit in our little sphere for relatively hi-stat & accomplished kids & dd feels like she’ll be around other similarly driven students. Idk, I still remember the old usc. Wife was hoping dd would pick Michigan. I was hoping for Emory. But kid seems in love w/it. Fight on.

Williams cried like a baby on T.V. The University of Spoiled Children or The University of South Central isn't even top 5 in Southern California. Cal Tech, UCLA, Claremont-McKenna, UCSD and UC Irvine all run circles aroung it.

Hail to all our Bruin Warriors,
Sons and daughters lead the way,
Who we are and what we stand for makes us proud today,
Fight! Fight! Fight!
Westwood is the home for Bruins,
L. A. is OUR town!
Ready for the test we’re the best team in the West,
Future Champions we’ll crown.
U-C-L-A! Fight! Fight! Fight!

Good lord. No one cares about UCLA. Especially OOS. Start your own thread.
