White jeans- yay or nay?

Anonymous
Love them and wear them with lots of things. I also think pink, yellow and light blue denim is fun. My yellow jeans get a lot of use in spring. Maybe compromise with a light color.

White is classic but ecru probably looks more current at the moment. Be careful if you’re pear-shaped. Light-colored pants will make your bottom half look even bigger.

I like both of these options. The Nordstrom pair is available in both white and ecru.

Same. I used to wear them a lot. I took them out the other day and felt like they were 'over'. I have seen a more creamier white and a different cut than the white ones I currently own. It may be more the fit of the jean and shade is different now.

oh- like the urban outfitter ones pp linked! That is definitely what is more in now in both shade and fit.

Unfortunately, I look awful in that style. I tried a pair on and I look short and dumpy in them. I have very muscular legs and I'm almost 5'5", athletic--that style makes me look short and fat.

I have three pair of white jeans and wear them all the time. Basically from April to October. I tend to wear them with darker tops. Camel at the lightest.

Oxyclean is your friend, but I don't wear them on planes.

I agree it's a certain "wine mom" look and a little dated right now. I also think not many people actually look good in them -- you have to have very thin legs, not much butt, on the taller side, etc. And they just don't seem like they'd get that much use -- you can't wear them anytime you're going to be sitting on the grass or a picnic bench or bleachers; can't wear them if it's going to be very hot; not particularly dressy; not particularly practical for sporty/movement days; only look good with certain tops; need to make sure you're wearing the right underwear; etc. I can think of a couple of theoretical things to which I'd wear them, but it really would be pretty limited.

But I love colored jeans. I've always wanted a pair of bright or dark green jeans, but have never pulled the trigger. And I think PP's yellow jeans would be very cute. I bought dark grey jeans last fall, and I have liked them a lot more than I thought I would.

I also like the urban outfitters one, and they would look really cute on my teen who is 5'7" and a size zero. She would say that $98 is a ridiculous amount to spend on jeans and she wouldn't want to have to worry about washing them, though.

I don’t understand the comments about white being hard to style? You can wear them with almost any color on top. I especially like white with navy for spring. It also looks great with almost any brightly-colored top.

For a trendier look, try going monochromatic, like one of the examples below:

I think ecru or cream jeans are more current, and less stark. I have a super affordable pair from H&M that I wear with mostly neutrals like black, gray, and tan. The high waistband won't be for everyone, but I am petite and like the look with my top tucked in.

This feels like an argument against white jeans -- all of these look very dated to me. Very "middle aged wine mom" as a PP put it. These outfits are also extremely boring and don't physically flatter these women, even the model in the second pic.

I think if you are looking for a pair of light summer pants, a linen trouser in white, off-white, or tan, would look more modern and flatter most people better (way more options in terms of rise, width of leg, and pant in linen pants than in jeans).

White jeans look trashy to me.

Oh yes, the Urban Outfitters ones are Levis 501 90s style. I bought a pair of these in stonewashed black (from the Levis store) and I wear them like every other day. Love the fit. Loose and comfy.

My white jeans are Levis 720, which is fitted. I am a size 2 with brown skin, so maybe that's why they work. I like them a lot. Best when it's a tonal outfit (cream tank and a cream/white blazer)

I actually love that second pic as an option for summer casual workwear.

I like the idea of white jeans, but not the reality of wearing any jeans in warm weather.
