Just go to Nordstrom and pick out stuff you like to try on. Then assess whether or not they will work for when you "walk around all afternoon." We all have different ideas of what kind of shoes work for walking, and we don't know what you mean by "all afternoon." (Like, literally walking for 5 hours straight or walking around a bit for errands and meeting a friend? People could mean either or anything in between by saying "walk around all afternoon.")
Just check out Nordstrom. The suggestions here have been horrific. But what can you expect when it all got kicked off with "Crocs." |
An "arm-chair critic"? As opposed to the professional kind? What? |
In defense of crocs, I walked 17-20k steps a day all over Europe in these thong sandals and was so comfortable!
I normally wear high end designer shoes and brought those for restaurants and a couple of events, but during the day, the crocs saved me as I hate wearing sneakers with dresses. https://www.crocs.com/p/womens-crocs-tulum-flip/206752.html |
The wedges by Andres Assous are very comfortable and I walk all over in mine. I am always on the hunt for walkable summer sandals that do not look orthopedic. The Charleston Shoe company has comfortable ones too. I always choose wedges for walking, and there are so many at different price points.
If I am standing around more, I like a block heel sandal like this: https://blmg.co/3V5g4Uo or a cute kitten heel one. Look- I love my birks at the beach, but when I wear birks I feel like I am 80 and have given up. Don’t people want to look cute and a little fashionable? |
Casteñer Espadrilles. |
Dansko Tianas |
+1 Stuart Weitzman ATP Broken-in Jack Rogers (probably divisive, but they’ve been my go-to for 20+ yrs) |
white leather birkenstock milanos |
How about super simple white Adidas sneakers? I also like Clarks for sandals. I think some people on this thread have really different feet than I do. Heels kill my feet and always have. I’ve always had to wear great boots or oxfords or low sandals. I guess a lot of people like wearing heels all summer but I am with OP here. I just like low comfy cute sandals or sneakers. |
No. |
A pair of Crocs flip flops saved me when the expensive “comfort” leather sandals I had on vacation when pregnant turned out not to be so good for doing a lot of walking and the flip flops were all I could find near our hotel. |
I was mocking crocs upthread but I would wear these. |
Vionic has a few styles that I think are cute enough for wearing around all afternoon...

I feel cute and a little fashionable in my Birks. Those Loeffler sandals are cute but there is no chance in effin hell that you can walk around all afternoon in them. |
Birkenstocks. First and foremost for comfort—I wear them from May to October pretty much exclusively and have walked all over many cities in them.
But the people on here who act horrified clearly just don’t like them aesthetically…which is fine! Don’t wear them! But they are objectively “fashionable”—as in, the sort of thing fashion magazines show and celebrities wear, and have been for many years. |
