3)Successfully co-sponsored a budget amendment making all elementary school psychologists full-time positions.
4) Successfully sponsored a budget amendment adding additional full-time teaching positions in the high school to ease the burden on teachers with large classes.
5) Drafted and passed a resolution requesting the City Council implements 15 mph school zones.
6) Sponsored two budget amendments aimed at evaluating and improving restorative practices to end disproportionate suspensions of students of color.
7) Supported and voted for funding for building new schools to add capacity.

I love it when the campaign folks start using DCUM for free advertising.

So nothing on curriculum or actual education? Got it.

His "newsletter" reads like an insider clique of Alexandria Dems (BTW I'm a lifelong Democrat, but I absolutely hate how insular Alexandria politics is and how it mirrors Parks and Rec or Portlandia).

I'll bite - what has the newsletter published that made you feel excluded?

DP: I don’t think the newsletter itself causes feelings of exclusion.

I think a little digging on O’Connell/Hammer’s connections show there are part of a ADC/Wilson acolyte clique who want people to think they are the cool kids of Alexandria. I often agree with their policy positions but I can see why people find this insular clique is off putting.

Lots of folks are part of the ADC. Would be curious what made you feel excluded from the ADC overall, or by Hammer/O'Connell (which I'd think would be apart from any differences in policy).

I love the newsletter. I actually got my husband the paid version for Christmas.

Sure you did, Becky.

I don’t feel excluded from the ADC. I have no interest in being in the ADC due to my job / prefer to not to identify with any political party.

My perspective from observing social media is that there is a group of local politicos and close supporters who try to project themselves as close personal friends etc. - ie O’Connell being running buddies with Wilson et al. There is a reason why people talk about Wilson’s mom mafia etc.

People can befriend whoever they want and anyone can step forward to run for office. I do think it is true there is a pretty insular group that holds most of the elected city government positions. I am just making an observation.

The leaders of that mosque recently told worshipers that Hamas never attacked Israel, and the whole thing was a “false flag” operation by the Jews so they would have a reason to attack peaceful Hamas.

I am serious; this is literally what they told people.

Disgusting. And if a candidate was a member of Westboro Baptist Church, that would be disqualifying. This should be as well.

+1. I very much agree with this. If you follow more active members on FB, this group comments a lot and makes lots of tongue in cheek comments about residents that are not 100% in lock step with them in policy (including other involved Dems). I purposely stopped attend ADC meetings due to the cliquish nature on that group.

People talk about Wilson's mom mafia because HE calls them that (and talks about how they take his orders).

I'm the one who posted Abdel's accomplishments. And I am not part of his campaign. I've simply met him through involvement in city groups and have been very impressed. I hope you get the chance to speak with him and ask questions! He's happy to meet with anyone, including those who might disagree with his positions.

This is why I want to know if he denies the atrocities of October 7th?

He's great, but the problem with this is that we'd lose him from the school and he one of the only good ones who stands up against the superintendents.

Hearing that someone is a running buddy of Wilson's is a good way to get me not to vote for him.

Thank goodness our neighbors were willing to help in the hunt for the rapist in the Potomac Yard neighborhood and Del Ray. Even if they had caught the assailant- I’m sure he would be let out without bail and sent to a restorative justice circle. All policies supported by the entirety of the ADC. Let’s get some newcomers on the council. None of the current candidates satisfy that demand.

Zero experience points awarded for serving on this school board. What are these folks thinking.

So the Del Ray rapist hasn't been caught?
