Alexandria City Council candidates

Who is running for Alexandria City Council and who do you think is the change we need? Super annoyed that Jesse O'Connell is now in the mix. His "newsletter" reads like an insider clique of Alexandria Dems (BTW I'm a lifelong Democrat, but I absolutely hate how insular Alexandria politics is and how it mirrors Parks and Rec or Portlandia).

Did you vote for Wilson? Did you vote for anyone on this council?

If so, welcome to the bed you made. Best of luck.

Abdel Elnoubi is running and he would be fantastic on City Council. He tells it like it is, and his background in transportation and engineering would be really helpful if the arena project goes through.

What did Elnoubi achieve on the school board? What did he get done? He spoke up a time or two over the years. That was nice and different but he didn't actually follow through on any of the issues he raised.

Pass.

Elnoubi is also a member of the mosque that was involved in 9/11 and said to have radicalized Fort Hood Hasan. Those wounds run deep with me, so no thank you.

This is part of the reason Alexandria will never dig itself out - Elnoubi has achieved exactly nothing on the SB but sure let's elect him to council.

I'll bite - what has the newsletter published that made you feel excluded?

DP: I don’t think the newsletter itself causes feelings of exclusion.

I think a little digging on O’Connell/Hammer’s connections show there are part of a ADC/Wilson acolyte clique who want people to think they are the cool kids of Alexandria. I often agree with their policy positions but I can see why people find this insular clique is off putting.

Lots of folks are part of the ADC. Would be curious what made you feel excluded from the ADC overall, or by Hammer/O'Connell (which I'd think would be apart from any differences in policy).

Huh? How so? Islam is an anti-woman, anti-gay religion that in some groups wishes death on Americans. One such group worshipped in the mosque in Falls Church. Before I ever voted for Elnoubi he would need to vocally disavow the murderous, terroristic past.

Here's what Abdel has accomplished: 1) Advocated for and supported pay increases for educators in every budget adopted by the School Board.
2)Successfully sponsored a budget amendment adding a psychologist position to the high school.
3)Successfully co-sponsored a budget amendment making all elementary school psychologists full-time positions.
4) Successfully sponsored a budget amendment adding additional full-time teaching positions in the high school to ease the burden on teachers with large classes.
5) Drafted and passed a resolution requesting the City Council implements 15 mph school zones.
6) Sponsored two budget amendments aimed at evaluating and improving restorative practices to end disproportionate suspensions of students of color.
7) Supported and voted for funding for building new schools to add capacity.

The leaders of that mosque recently told worshipers that Hamas never attacked Israel, and the whole thing was a “false flag” operation by the Jews so they would have a reason to attack peaceful Hamas.

I am serious; this is literally what they told people.

I love the newsletter. I actually got my husband the paid version for Christmas.
