ILs pushing their religion on our family

OP, I would have your DH first sit down privately with his parents and firmly explain why he does not want them to discuss their religion with or around your kids. Period.

He can make a further comparison if the message isn't getting through: Their religion needs to be an off-limits topic around your children. Just like their personal sex lives. They may have sex but they sure as hell aren't telling their grandkids about it. Keep it private.

I think the thing that bothers me most is that there may be ideals and values of some religions which do NOT comport with parents values, and how they decide to raise their children.

The roles of women and men, the need to proselytize, the description of "going to hell" if you don't believe what we believe. That is not stuff for children to be exposed to if the parents don't agree to raise their child that way.
