sidwell college results--does everyone have top grades or are they getting in kids into strong schools imperfect grades?

Anonymous
Sidwell college results are really good this year. Very, very few kids (out of over 80 posted) are attending schools outside of the top 30 or schools that are not highly competitive.

Does this mean that they're getting very competitive admits for kids with GPAs under 3.8?
(i.e with a few Bs?)
Or does this class all have 3.8+?

Asking because my kid's DC Big3 private seems to have a major drop off after about a 3.8.
The top kids---doing great!
Then the 3.7 and below are attending schools that are far less competitive.
I.e nothing really in the top 40.

Are Sidwell's GPAs all clustered above 3.8 or do they just have more pull with colleges so that their lower kids
still get strong admits?

Curious.

Sidwell parent here. Sidwell’s college results tend to be pretty strong every year. Although some years are clearly better than others.

That said, I read somewhere (can’t remember where) that Sidwell’s average GPA is around a 3.60. Sidwell does an exceptionally good job getting the bottom half of the class into strong (T30 to T50 colleges).

Of course the top students are going to do well—with or without Sidwell. There are several students heading to Ivies who still haven’t posted on IG (Harvard, Penn, and Columbia).

I suspect this is yet another Sudwell booster post. Sidwell’s results were notably weaker than usually this year. Other Big 3 schools had much stronger outcomes. The CO at Sidewell is still in disarray from so many departures and many parents are deeply unhappy. There’s another thread on it but look at the insta threads for the acceptances at the other top schools and you will see this is the unvarnished truth.

NP. With >65% of the class posting, which DC area private schools have stronger results than Sidwell this year (besides GDS)?

Let us know which schools are placing a higher percentage of students, based on IG posts, into nationally ranked T30 universities AND T30 liberal arts colleges?
Same for T50 universities AND T50 liberal arts colleges. I’m genuinely curious.

P.S. STA sit this one out because there’s no IG account to verify your “word.”

There’s a lot of pressure at Sidwell for these kids to excel and that’s why you don’t see the bottom half of the class posting on instagram. It’s the kind of environment where most feel ashamed and embarrassed if they’re not attending a top 30 school next year. So you’ve got a bit of selection bias in the posts you’re seeing. The school’s results are still really good as always - although I’ve heard anecdotally from parents with seniors that this is a bit of a down year - but not as universally good as instagram posts would lead you to believe.

It looks like all of the top private schools are placing half the class in T50 to me. Why the competition? These kids are doing great!

Of those that have posted… at least 12 are athletic recruits. Guessing that is the “pull”… harder to know how many are legacy.

there's heavy selection bias in the posts you're seeing. The kid that got into CU Boulder or American isn't sharing their results.

but still OP's question is relevant. Do those w Top 30 postings all have 3.8+

Nonsense! There’s an IG post from a 2024 Sidwell grad who is going to a school I’ve never heard of in Florida. I’m sure the school isn’t even ranked. I love that this kid is proudly posting their college, nevertheless.

No they don’t.

So Sidwell is gettng 3.6 and 3.7 kids into top 40 schools?

It would seem that they would have to be based on the average GPA and the schools kids are attending.

That is strikingly different than NCS (for example). Girls with a 3.6 are not getting into a top40 school.
The drop off in colleges for girls under a 3.8 is pretty striking.

This is no way a “down year”. No one is saying that. Kids have done very well. Stop. Just stop.

The kids who are showing non T30 are likely getting full rides or other merit. It isn't soley about rankings for many of the applicants, not just SFS but all of these schools.
