Van Cleef and Arpels Alhambra

Anonymous
I love Van Cleef’s mother of pearl jewelry. Yet I’m unsure about the signature Alhambra clover shape. It is proprietary, owned by VCA, so does it scream VCA? I like things understated, modest. I don’t wear logos. Is the signature Alhambra shape like wearing a logo?

I’m not a troll, I have nothing against wearing logos, I understand why people like them. I simply prefer an un-branded look for myself, and that’s only for myself.

Most people will simply see a beautiful necklace, don't worry about the nonexistent "logo"

That’s too much for me. I like it in the pendant better

Most people will see a shamrock necklace. You want them to see the logo because you want them to know it cost $10,000.

I don't know if it is necessarily like wearing a logo as I dont think people may know the name by brand. That said, it seems to be one of those easily recognizable luxury items. That said, if you like it, get it. The design isn't my cup of tea but I have other recognizable luxury stuff I got because I like them

It's overdone. Screams UMC.

Yeah they spent a lot of money putting it on celebrities in magazine pictures for several decades to make sure we all recognize it.

I am not into luxury brands but I have long thought the Van Cleef clover is beautiful and I enjoy seeing it worn out in the wild. I know what it is so it does scream VCA to me but I don't think thats true for everyone.

There are so many knock offs (excuse me, dupes or doooooopes) that it’s really devalued the brand.

I agree, that's why I wouldn't buy it. Aesthetically it's a pretty design but fell in the same trap as the Cartier love bracelets.

In the age of social media, nothing is understated anymore. Nothing.

I bought one of these bracelets back in 2019 or 2020 before they had a really exploded. I bought it part because I thought it was going to be super understated. It’s not anymore and that’s okay.

Just buy what you like.

You know when your 12 year old wants the fake version that this is pretty much devalued.

It is the epitome of label-conscious status symbols. It’s costa about $2000 for the first clover and an additional $1000-$1500 for each additional one one a piece. Anyone who knows knows this—it’s tantamount to hanging a string of large bills around your neck except the latter is just a little more direct.

Cartier is a better investment

It has a resale value.
