Teacher routinely curses out class wwyd?

Anonymous
We had a birthday gathering tonight and over pizza the kids were taking about how much one of their teachers curses at the class. Things like "you f-ers are gonna wind up going nowhere in life if you keep acting out" and "don't give me more bs" and "stop acting like s-holes" and "f this s." Kids are often called "whiny a-holes." The teacher also punishes the whole class when just a couple kids act out. The kids have the same teacher but different class periods and their stories were consistently awful.

My kid has mentioned incidents throughout the year, but hearing all the other kids with similar or worse stories hit me harder.

Do you say anything to the principal?

Assuming teacher is rehired, the kids will likely have them again next year.

Absolutely say something. People would be fired even for speaking to adults like that at work.

I’m not condoning the teacher’s language - they sound like they either never belonged in teaching or they are burnt out at this point.

But I’m curious - listening to the kids talking about this teacher, did you ask them what kind of behaviors they are engaging in when the teacher chastises them in such strong terms?

That’s not true if you work in most finance environments. It’s 10x worse…but I like the directness in an adult work setting.

Completely nuts for a teacher to talk that way to students. I would have a kid record the class (just hit record on the phone at the beginning and then put away so it’s not obvious). Imagine you want some proof.

I’ve heard of kids that run associations, magazines, being awful. Welcome to the world. What a shame

I wanted to stay "invisible" at the party so they'd keep talking, so no. My kid has told me at other times it's typical stupid middle school stuff like talking or laughing during the lesson or misusing the class materials. Not great behavior but behavior you'd hope a teacher could nip in the bud without profanity. I think some kids shrug it off but a few were pretty upset talking about it.

Just address this with the principal. Dont go around recording stuff.

This is MIDDLE school? Definitely say something and that you heard it from multiple kids.

Is it possible the kids could be lying or joking? This sounds really extreme.

I don't believe any parent with at least an average IQ would have to ask others if they should do anything about this.

+1

Or exaggerating? TBH my kids (middle school
and high school) have said that some teachers have said things like “I’m not going to tolerate your BS today Larlo” (using BS not the full word) when a middle school kid is acting like a total sh!t etc. Frankly I wouldn’t blame the teacher for something like that at all and don’t really care. But the rest of it sounds really extreme. If you feel confident they are telling the truth I’d email the principal saying you have concerns about Mr X cursing at the kids during class etc. I can’t imagine you’d be the only one to have complained- that all sounds very extreme.

Let me guess, male teacher?

Teacher here. I would report this to the principal and let admin investigate. If what the students are saying is true, then this needs to be addressed.

Student behavior is abysmal now, and dealing with it day after day wears a teacher down. I suspect this is another teacher at the end of his/her rope. The solution is to quit, however, and not to fight back. The teacher will be happier doing something else.

My school recently let go of a teacher for inability to manage behavior without cursing. She was removed before the end of the year. Please report what you heard and let admin investigate. Please don’t ask your kid to record.

Don’t have your kid record. At minimum, it could get your kid in trouble for using their phone. At worst it could actually be illegal, depending on your jurisdiction.
