Notre Dame.

It's a happy school. And it'll be roughly $100,000 cheaper than NU.

+1 and I’m not Catholic or religious at all.

+1--also from someone who is not Catholic or religious at all. Friends of DC who've gone to Northwestern report it is actually pretty grind-y. The quarter system leaves no room for error (as the quarters are so short and intense) and a lot of classes are graded on a curve, which results in serious, unpleasant competition among students. I'd go ND, esp, given $ savings. Plus, President Bartlett went to ND and seemed to do pretty well with politics .

Shit for history/politics/IR why not GW?

But good enough. The original poster mentioned the importance of a happy school, a very underrated criteria when choosing a college. And students at Notre Dame tend to report being very happy with their experience.

Why on earth would anyone choose USC over Yale, unless if USC is a free ride?

Totally dependent on major and if they want a 7k student body vs 30k (23k more students).

I’m a Hokie stem alum- but I have one at UVA and one at WM. Fit, size, major all matter.

Business major. AA girl, who is first gen. Shy and studious. Wants to be in or near the city and loves going to basketball games. She prefers to not go to a party school and wants to be surrounded by a decent amount of serious students.

Drexel. Avoid VCU at all costs: really, really bad area. Haven't heard great things on Towson either.

Fordham
CWRU (add choice but long story)
BU

Leaning BU but likes the Fordham proximity to NY internships.

Thoughts?

Yes, Fordham, for same reason.

For social reasons. I have a young relative who is at USC now who chose it over Yale. Another who chose it over Cornell. All about the social network.

My child applied to Drexel and wouldn’t consider the others academically. Morgan State also in an unsafe area, despite the newer shopping near it. If cost is a factor I’d pick Towson.

W&M is completely unlike the others. If it is a fit, go there. If your kid prefers the significantly larger schools, I think VT honors with in-state tuition would be attractive.

One of the instate options, whichever campus is the better fit for your student. Great choices!

UIUC CS is top-rated and is leagues ahead of any of these other options especially when it comes to recruiting. 23k/yr is a lot, but I wouldn't discredit it based off that alone, especially if DC is set on CS.
