! Somebody apparently unfamiliar with Williams. Order would be Williams, Rice, Cornell, UCLA, Cal... |
Another vote for UGA. Athens is funky and great (not that Madison isn’t), and has better weather. And you said it’s cheaper, to boot. Great choices to have. Go Dawgs. |
I believe RH is quite small. If RIT supports are significantly better than other options that could be the deciding factor. Solid schools- all three. Good luck! |
I like RIT for you! |
UC Davis. Have yet to meet someone who was unhappy with their time in Davis. Good vibes there. For rah rah, Ohio State. It's a giant school, but a driven and disciplined student will get a fine education. |
Accepted:
Georgetown Pomona Boston College UVA William & Mary (Monroe scholar) GW Waitlist: Princeton Brown Male. Govt/history/politics/IR-related. In-state VA. Doesn't qualify for any aid. Willing to pay if a distinct advantage over other options. |
First--any relatives on West Coast? How do you/they feel about the distance-long flights? |
I vote WM for that student too. Good luck! |
What kind of optionality does your kid want after college? I actually don't have an answer for you, but would focus on which school has the most varied successful outcomes for graduates in Math/Applied Math, whether going to grad school or working for a hedge fund or whatever. Certainly, you need to make sure your kid is happy in a fairly remote location if they go to Williams. Some people like that their 4 years are consumed by the college experience, while others like the offerings of a Houston, LA or SF/Bay Area. |
Colgate
Wesleyan UCLA UCSD UMD honors DC is a go-getter and would succeed in a large or small school. Econ/Finance. Also waiting to hear from UMich. |
Are they in-state MD? |
UVA. |
Gotta visit - too many good choices (don't overlook WM, it's a strong contender) |
Interests intersect nicely with both UVA and W&M. Choose your environment. Georgetown is great, but not worth the price difference. |
Duke Penn is Wharton and a little bit of engineering. No one thinks about the social science majors. And applications to Brown declined this year. Fair or not, it has a rep for rich kids floating through their self-guided curriculums while languishing in a mediocre city. Duke is more lively and varied and is generally good at everything. Plus more school spirit and better weather. |
