Some good news: Crime is down in DC

3 years ago we weren’t even able to have an honest discussion about what was going on precisely, in fear of being cancelled, being called racist etc. It’s still hard. The left wing did a lot of damage with their psyop.

Very good point. Crime involves a police report etc. they scrambled comms so we don’t even know.

I predict a massive uptick come nice weather

Well, the report days homicides down 36%. I am pretty sure homicides still reported, or are you suggesting bodies are left to rot around town because people dont bother reporting them anymore. One thing is breaking into a car to steal something, one thing is a homicide

I guess it depends on what homicide is, whose defining it, you know, what homicides is? Lol

So maybe the issue wasn't the "progressives" on the council, but rather leadership at MPD.

Prosecutors took a couple years off and the cops were told by the council to retreat to the donut shop (don’t pursue carjackings, fake plates are allowed, if a drug-addled criminal can’t ride a motorcycle and crashes it’s the police’s fault, etc), so they did.

Too bad for everyone who got shot or had their car stolen on the meantime.

If somewhere in that word salad of yours you're trying to say that the definition of homicide changes on the whims of whoever is reporting them, then I'd love to see some evidence that there has been any change whatsoever in the definition in the time period we're looking at. There's absolutely no reason to believe that a homicide in 2024 is defined, reported, or treated any differently than a homicide in 2023, 2022, or any other relevant time.

Not PP, but I do know that some sack of sht crashing his scooter isn’t a homicide.

Old enough to remember when Chevy Chase, DC was safe.

With the new plans for density it's only going to get more interesting.

Not sure prioritizing "returning citizens" and the severely mentally ill for housing vouchers in buildings on Connecticut is working well for other residents.

The city is intentionally loading up apartments along Connecticut Ave with voucher recipients who are antisocial and present a danger to themselves and others. This follows stated city policy for “burden sharing” and this assault is the inevitable result.

The effect of this policy is that it takes away the ability of people to pay a premium to live away from negative externalities. I guess the embedded assumption of DC officials is that people will still pay that premium anyway without any benefit because living in DC has other benefits that people wont want to give up. It’s a bad assumption.

The same thing is happening at the buildings at SW Waterfront with some paying a premium to live there and then paying more to break their leases after voucher tenants run the place into the ground.

Why are so many DC people buying in Arlington?

Crime is one factor, but overall quality of life is the major reason. People have reached their limits with DC’s “vibrancy”.
