Dublin, Copenhagen, London, or Amsterdam spring break 2025?

Anonymous
I am just beginning to explore spring break 2025 ideas. My kids will be in 1st & 4th grade. We went to London for spring break 2023 and LOVED it- one of our best trips ever. We spent time in Copenhagen this past Christmas and loved it and how child friendly it is. I've been to Dublin but it's been over 15 years and we've never been to Amsterdam.

I'm kind of leaning away from Dublin because I would want to explore more of Ireland and a week is a short time to do that. I'm leaning more toward the other 3 but not sure!

My spring break is the 1st week of April, so a little later than the past few years. I imagine all 3 of those cities would have lovely flowers and be cool but springy.

Recommendations??

I would choose Amsterdam. So walkable and lots to do in Amsterdam and also daytrips are plentiful. We did Ireland last summer after Scotland and weren't wowed. Dublin has some good sights but also didn't wow.

Only do Dublin if you have the time and ability to rent a car and get either to the western or southern parts of Ireland as well, preferably both.

Amsterdam will be in the beginning of tulip season which is very beautiful. I'd probably to Amsterdam and save Ireland for a summer trip.

Have you considered Spain? It’s so great with kids, and a little sun is nice at spring break. Amsterdam is nice but if you have a full week I’d suggest a daytrip out of Amsterdam, and it is often rainy.

Yeah, I'd pick Spain or Portugal in April.

We were just in Portugal the third week of March and Ireland (mostly Dublin, but some trips outside) the last week of March. Dublin was cold and rainy much of the time and my understanding is that's pretty much the way it is. I didn't personally enjoy Portugal.

Amsterdam is probably lovely but depending on when tulip season is, may be crowded and expensive.

We took our kids to Barcelona when they were in 3rd and 6th for about 4 days. It was great. I would recommend it. I haven't been to Barcelona that time of year but I imagine it is lovely. It was *very* hot at the end of May.

Choose the least crowded place.

we went to ireland for spring break this year and loved it. we spent 3 nights in Dubline (but did a day trip one day), 3 nights in Galway (took the train) and then the last night in Howth, which was super cute and close to the airport. we loved it but the weather wasn't awesome.

OP here- It's funny that multiple people asked about Spain. We actually went to Madrid & Valencia this year for spring break and it was fabulous. I'm not opposed to returning to Spain next year for spring break but we are planning to spend 2 weeks in Spain summer 2025 as part of a big trip.

We will NOT be going to any of the locations I mentioned above as part of that trip. I'll have to explore the possibility of Amsterdam more

Your kids are 20 years away from enjoying what people go to Amsterdam for.

I think you could have a good time in the Netherlands but wouldn’t focus on Amsterdam with little kids.

Those suggestions all have bad weather that time of year. You could get lucky but it might be rainy and cold.

I’d go further south and save those for warmer times

Amsterdam! We stayed in Haarlem and it was great for kids, less busy and so child friendly.

Amsterdam is great but it's not a small kid kind of city, its very adult, museums, bars, other adult things, even the Anne Frank Museum is not particularly kid friendly.

Same for Dublin.

Ireland is great for kids. We just did spring break for 9 days, pulled the kids out for Friday before the break week (7yo and 5yo). Rented a car and did Dublin, Galway, Dingle, Kinsale for 2 nights each. It’s a great kids trip bc it’s not museum heavy, just lots of outdoor exploration. People were so lovely and welcoming to the kids. Food there is easy for kids too.
