American Riviera Orchard and Meghan Markle

I generally like Meghan Markle but this concept seems cheesy and not well thought out. I don't like the name. I don't like the pictures in the billowy gown and the overlay music. It all seems a bit off. I think they must need a revenue stream and she's working hard (which I do not fault her for doing at all). I just wish she had better brand or concept advisors. It just seems a bit empty as a brand. What do others think?

I think it’s too bad that she shut down the Tig site— which was lovely, and had a following.
The link doesn’t work for me, so I’ll comment once I’ve seen the site and it’s had a chance to grow. “Empty as a brand” seems like an odd criticism for something not fully launched— so just generally, I’d see if there’s anything there that grabs my interest, and check in again once something is more fully fledged. |

| I think a lifestyle brand is a good idea for her. The name is too long though. I think American Riviera would’ve been fine or American Orchard. |

The People article:
A trademark application, currently awaiting examination, for American Riviera Orchard reveals the brand plans to sell tableware, drinkware including decanters, kitchen linens and edible treats such as jellies, jams, marmalade and spreads. The trademark application is also seeking approval for cookbooks. |

| Terrible name (the People article explains why they chose it but it’s so clunky). Sounds like from the trademark application, she’s going to be selling tableware and linens and stuff. Sort of like a Martha Stewart?? |

I really like Meghan and the Tig was lovely. Glad she is trying this.
Hopefully this thread doesn't devolve into a bunch of oddly-loyal-to-the-royals posting about how she's a terrible person. |

| I think this path makes sense for her, but agree the name and overall vibe (from what little I've seen) feel very generic, whereas The Tig felt hip and personal. |

I think this is a good fit for her and wish her well—and I’m neither a fan or a hater.
The name is a bit convoluted though. At first I thought she was teaming up with Harry and David somehow because of the Riviera Orchard part. I think she should have used her first name and then some kind of French phrase for luxury or orchard. |
