American Riviera Orchard and Meghan Markle

I wonder if the downgrade was the big upcoming royal news Lady C was referring to? It has not affected the current order of succession.

Why? The Queen sold gin. Charles had cookies and a guest house in Romania. The Queen and Prince Phillip gave out Royal Warrants. The QM may have done this too. If Peter’s milk commercials, Zara’s CBD ventures, and her husband’s podcasts and reality show participation, and the Buckingham Palace Gift Shop didn’t set off any rolling, this business venture probably won’t either.

The difference is the Queen and Charles did that stuff for charity. Megan is hawking stuff to line her own pockets

Just curious. What kind of job will you allow Megan to have to make money for her family? Maybe you should share what kind of jobs you would allow her to have without criticizing her.

The Queen said Megan could keep her acting jobs. Megan no longer wanted to act.

Ah, I see. So if Meghan announced she was starring in a new television show, you would be totally fine with that and not complain about how she is embarrassing the royal family and trading on her title to hack her way back into acting, and wouldn't rip apart whatever the show was as unbecoming of someone who married a royal, etc.? You'd be like "okay that is fine, it is after all her chosen profession and she'd been doing it for a long time when she met Harry."

Somehow I don't think so.

I am not the biggest Meghan Markle fan but it's so obvious that some of you will hate her no matter what she does and won't be happy unless Harry divorces her, publicly states he made a mistake in marrying her, and then absconds with he children back to England to grovel to his family to take him back. It is really weird.

You're wrong. Many people would love to see her acting again.

Surely she could finance her own project then.

If Reese Witherspoon can, why not? I truly think Meghan is missing out by not returning to tv drama. Perhaps she has a knack for comedy, too. She would not be the first woman to return to the work she left to marry and start a family. People would respect her for that.

Well she doesn’t have the money and clout like Reese, but no reason she can try anyway.

How did Reese get hired and stay working since she’s older than Meghan and obviously she has all the sort of injuries that come with age that prevented Mike Tindall from sticking with rugby?

I like MM more than most but I don't think it would be easy to see past her position and accept her as a character in an acting role. I'm sorry to say, that ship may have sailed. Lifestyle branding is good but I'd like to see her promoting fashion, decor or travel more than jams. But who doesn't love jam?

I agree with this. I also think part of the problem is that her marriage is extremely high profile and a constant topic for gossip and attacks. Which means that if she had a role that involved literally any level of romance, I think the scrutiny on it would be impossible. People would lose it if the the Duchess of Sussex and the woman married to the person 7th (or whatever, I'm not going to look it up) in line to the throne was making out or simulating sexual situations with an actor on screen. I just think people would lose it. But also the number of roles available to women without that element are very small, and because of Meghan's appearance, her casting would lean towards more romantic roles.

I definitely would rather see her doing something fashion-related. Actually I think what I'd really love is for her to curate a collection of baby clothes and accessories. I don't even have babies anymore, I just bet it would be really cute. And since her kids aren't babies anymore, there wouldn't be pressure to feature them in the branding. That is the kind of thing I would have been all over when I was pregnant.

The role wouldn't have to require sex or romance. She could be a partner who is a warrior for the less fortunate.

That's not how it works. She will never get a job as a regular on a TV show if her contract dictated that her character could never be involved in any romance. It would be way too constricting for the writers and producers, and also as an actress she is not the right "type" for that kind of role -- she's an attractive woman under the age of 50, the roles she'd be most suitable for would all involve romance. I mean, Jodi Foster just did True Detective playing a police chief in Alaska and she still wound up in her underwear in a sex scene. No way could Meghan reboot her acting career and avoid any romance plot lines whatsoever.

There are many actors who don't take their clothes off.

Not who work regularly and are women.

They would make an exception for Meghan just to have the publicity.

What does this even mean? What is a cultural caralyst? What does it mean to enhance a community "through learning, healing and inspirational support?" Am I wrong or does this mean that she wants to model what a good life can be but doesn't want to actually work or pay money toward that change?

This is classic Meghan for anyone who’s been following. She never says anything of substance. The UK tabloids were so mean to her that this fundamental fact about her was obscured.

It’s not really about accomplishment, yes she has done a lot. She just tries SO HARD to make it sound SO IMPORTANT. Just talk like a normal person describing their accomplishments and people would admire her more.

Meghan The Duchess of Sussex

Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex is a feminist and champion of human rights and gender equity. Her lifelong advocacy for women and girls remains a constant thread in her humanitarian and business ventures. She has been named one of the most influential women in the world in rankings including TIME Magazine’s Most Influential People, The Financial Times’ 25 Most Influential Women, Variety Power of Women, and British Vogue’s Vogue 25.

Her advocacy work on resilience, equality, and compassion through action has been recognized – alongside that of her husband, Prince Harry – with the NAACP President’s Award as well as the Robert F. Kennedy Ripple of Hope Award.

Born and raised in Southern California, Meghan attended Los Angeles based all-girls Catholic School, Immaculate Heart, which she continues to support as an alumna, before moving to Chicago to attend Northwestern University. While there, she double majored in Theater and International Relations, and went on to intern at the US Embassy in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as well as to study abroad in Madrid, Spain.

After graduation, Meghan turned her focus to the entertainment industry, later securing a lead role on the hit series, ‘Suits’ which she starred in for seven seasons. Between filming, Meghan travelled to Rwanda, India, and other countries to support humanitarian missions. She served in key roles such as: UN Women’s Advocate for Women’s Political Participation and Leadership, a World Vision Global Ambassador, and a leading Counsellor to One Young World. Meghan also travelled to support the military community on a USO Tour, visiting six military bases in seven days including Bagram, Afghanistan.

In 2018, Meghan married Prince Harry, becoming The Duchess of Sussex.

She has written for a number of publications and created the lifestyle website, ‘The Tig’. The Duchess of Sussex guest edited British Vogue in July 2019, which was the fastest selling copy in the magazine’s history.

She and Prince Harry founded The Archewell Foundation in 2020 to support communities in need, in both moments of crisis as well as for long term aid. At The Archewell Foundation, they are committed to their mission: Show Up, Do Good. They hold the value that charitable work should not simply be ‘a handout, but rather a hand held’, a phrase Meghan first adopted in supporting UK charity Smart Works, of which she is patron, that supports women to enter the workforce. Meghan and her husband also founded and oversee the production company, Archewell Productions.

In 2022, Meghan launched ‘Archetypes’, a record-breaking podcast exploring the labels that hold women back. ‘Archetypes’ debuted at Number 1 in The US, UK, Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand, and topped the charts as the Number 1 podcast in 47 countries. After its first season, Archetypes was awarded The People’s Choice Award in the podcast category, as well as The Gracie Award for Best Podcast.

She is a NY Times Best Selling author, publishing the acclaimed children’s book, ‘The Bench’, and ‘Together: Our Community Kitchen’ a collaborative publication with the women of the Hubb Community Kitchen in the UK, who were displaced after the tragic Grenfell Fire. The book debuted as number one on the UK’s Sunday Times Booklist, with proceeds going to The Hubb Kitchen.

Meghan is a major advocate for mental health, family care, and gender equity. The Duchess hopes to be a cultural catalyst for positive change, reflecting her core belief that representation matters, and that communities can be enhanced through learning, healing, and inspirational support.

Meghan lives in California with her husband and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

A true Jack (or Jill) of all trades. And master of none.

"a cultural catalyst for positive change". That's a mouthful!

There is nothing to her. Nothing. People with massive insecurities or actual reading comp issues read her haphazardly constructed statements and have a positive reaction. It is telling and embarrassing to be snowed by such a cut-rate bullshitter.

+1 I do admire her confidence though. She delivers these word salads with such ease and she has a nice voice.

She really does. I did a ton of public speaking classes in college and I am still not that good at it.

Memorizing dialogue is a job requirement for actors.

She also speaks Spanish and a little French. It’s a shame the kingdom bullied her away. She would’ve been an asset . Half the free world speaks Spanish, French, or English and is person of color .

It’s also shocking to me William and Harry with all their prep school education don’t speak a foreign language but an American does.

I'm not a fan, I think they handled their exit poorly and too publicly, but the bolded is both true and part of why they were always going to be screwed. No one can outshine to monarch or heir. She was apparently up early doing yoga and drinking green smoothies and planning to WORK every day like this was a job and she does have charisma. Almost guaranteed to make the rest of them look like slackers, which has been an image problem for William and Kate since WELL before anyone knew who Markle was. Maybe she is light in substance (she is) but look at who she's compared to?! The other royals are also superficial at best and she's better at faking it til you make it, which is kind of the whole role. It would be tricky, but I think if they could all put aside ego (impossible) she would have been an asset, especially in times like now.

She would have been an asset but she didn’t want to be. No way as an American she wanted to cut ribbons at car parks and curtsy to other people. 99% of what the royals do is tedious - showing their faces at a school or planting a tree at a factory.
