Hello Parents:
Trying to get a sense of where my kid could thrive: Which school offers the most supportive classes? What is percentage of kid that are more quirky? Which is more sporty? Which is more mainstream kids? My kid is more independent, awesome and a bit quirky but very sporty. ADHD with some extra time and does not love idea of small school but these 3 seam to be suggested a lot. |
Field is the least mainstream, St. Andrew's is the most athletic. |
Field is by far the best of the 3 in general perception |
Up is down? We liked all three but that isn't even close to true. |
St Andrews is far more mainstream than Field or Burke with Field being the least mainstream. St Andrews is also far more sporty than the other two. Not sure what a "supportive class" is OP but all of the schools will support a kid with accommodations for extra time if there is a documented need. |
St. Andrews has gone away from wanting kids with learning needs. As soon as I said my kid had one they literally told me not to apply. |
Based on what?! |
"general perception" |
Try searching. There are dozens and dozens of threads on Field and Burke.
We know kids who are very happy at all three. But they are different. I’m sure some would quibble, but the main difference between Field and Burke is the campus. Do you want closed, suburban? Or open, urban? |
I don’t know what you mean by “sporty.” Field and Burke both have lots of kids who play sports. I would describe it as “fun, competitive.” But it is not the WCAC.
No idea about St. Andrews. |
We had a similar experience at Burke. They did not flat out tell us not to apply, but we got a very negative vibe about them regarding kids with learning needs (in our case, ADHD with pretty standard accommodations like extra time on tests). |
Feels like this is a humblebrag by a parent whose kid got into all three. |
That's opposite anything else I've heard about Burke. |
Field and Burke play in the PVAC, a league for smaller schools with less competitive teams. St. Andrews competes in ISL and MAC along with all the other big private schools. It is much more sporty and has—not unrelated—much better sports facilities. |
When we were looking both St. Andrew's and Burke were anti the disruptive ADHD types |
