How often does FCPS/ County/ State changes High School Boundaries?
We are considering buying a property in the Lake Braddock School District but The property is next to the boundary line between LB and Robinson School District. We are trying to get our DD in the AP program and thus are considering this property. Robinson, being IB, doesn’t suit her. Has anyone experienced such changes in the past? Thanks in Advance. |
Other than AP vs IB, Lake Braddock and Robinson are virtually interchangeable.
They both have a lot of room, so rezoning between the two is very unlikely to happen. |
I'd buy closer to Lake Braddock as possible. No one knows what the new School Board will do with boundaries and Lake Braddock's boundaries are somewhat irregular. PP is certainly right that they wouldn't redistrict based on overcrowding, but if they did a county-wide redistricting the boundaries could change. |
Is it me or does it feel like we are getting a spate of threads about boundaries the past couple of months? |
Since when haven't people paid attention to school boundaries when looking at houses in NoVa? It's spring buying season so expect more posters bringing up boundaries, especially with several members of the new school board calling for a county-wide boundary review. |
What about the parents that buy properties because of schools, Do they get screwed?
Also, any idea about Chantily and Westfield boundaries? These two schools are like Night and day. |
It's because the school board is quietly starting to attempt to reboundary the whole county for socioeconomic balance. They had a non-recorded meeting about it last month. |
That's the idea, yeah. While people who bought cheaper homes near bad schools will cheer. |
And all schools will get better and that will be good for the whole county. |
It feels like they are coming from the same poster. |
If you want AP and your base school doesn’t have it, you may be able to request a transfer. If accepted, you’d be responsible for transportation. |
OP’s inquiry seems perfectly legit. |
If your kid is already in HS or even MS and thinking about AP, any boundary changes won’t affect her. Don’t even worry about it. |
If they make sweeping changes, grandfathering goes out the window. |
Sweeping changes would take years to implement. It’s not going to go into effect next school year or the year after that even. Plus can’t you request the school that has AP or IB if your base school doesn’t have it and if the school isn’t over crowded? Last I looked, neither LB nor Robinson was over capacity. |
