Seems like MCPS is a mess

Moving to the area soon and had been thinking MoCo for the schools but this forum paints a bleak picture. Would any of you prefer a VA district to MCPS?

There is nowhere in the DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia for the newbies) that I would move FOR the schools. I think there are a lot of areas where the schools are fine, but don't expect anything amazing. I think people still live in certain areas to AVOID certain districts and schools.

Come to Moco! We're better than NOVA. There are already a million threads on schools and Maryland vs Virginia.

All the schools are a disaster since Covid. Can’t put a finger on the exact reason but closing everything for a year did a number on our kids. Yes some kids are fine, my kid is fine, we homeschooled. A lot of kids are not fine though and it’s showing up.

Don't go by DCUM. You will be better off talking to real people.

Half the people who post here are right-wing agitators who don't even live in the area. They're whole game is to play up negative stories and create fear and doubt. My kids are in MCPS and doing great. As long as you are an involved parent your children can do well, but if you expect the county to raise them for you probably not.

This is not true and you peddling this crap is terrible. Also, you acting like everything is fine in MCPS is also a lie.

You are the one with the agenda of suppressing real issues and problems. Why? What do you gain from lying and denying the truth?

Agreed. Also, don't move ANYWHERE "for the schools". Find an area you like, with a residence you can afford, with transportation options that work for you.

On paper, Fairfax County Public Schools is the best in the area.

In MD, you can argue that Howard County and Frederick County are more desirable than MCPS, but that depends on what metrics matter most to you.

DP. "Half the people who post here are right-wing agitators who don't even live in the area. They're whole game is to play up negative stories and create fear and doubt." actually is true, as far as I can tell.

Is MCPS perfect? No, of course not. I don't know where there is a perfect public school system, or a perfect private school either.

So why are you here? Doesn’t that make you one of the bored people you’re talking about?

Too blanket of a recommendation. Not all AACPS pyramids are good.
Crofton HS, South River HS are good ones.

Who demanded perfection from MCPS? Pointing out problems you live and see doesn’t mean you demand perfection. It means you see a problem and want to see it addressed.

Are the only honest and accurate assessments of MCPS is either that it’s perfect or it’s horrible?

Again: you seem to be the one with the issue here. Not people who post about what’s going on MCPS.

OP here. Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I have to be in DC for work for the next few years and was thinking MoCo, of the available close-in choices, for the schools.
