You get may of these things in private too.. but the behavior problems are kept hush hush.

The typical private schools parent's comments, who wants to feel good about paying for an inferior product.

I’ve done public and private, as a parent and as a teacher.

I know not to compare whole systems. Some publics are better than some privates. Some privates are better than some publics.

You can’t compare whole systems, nor can you comment on schools you haven’t experienced. I’ve experienced two publics and three privates. All three privates have been far superior to the publics, but that’s just my small sample and I know they don’t represent all privates.

Similarly, you can’t say all of MCPS is better than private alternatives.

What it comes down to is the quality and skill of the teacher.

And the quality of the administration, which is HUGE. And the administration’s ability to lead the school.

And I agree: I’ve worked with terrific teachers in both settings. (I currently work in a private school with a lot of other former public school teachers.)

Admin are important but not as important as a good teacher. We've never had great admin, but a few teachers who are great have made a huge difference. Most are just meh.

WRONG
Go back to your bible thumping hole.

By the way there is a reason it is called PUBLIC SCHOOL!

My children went to MIT, CMU, Stanford, Yale all from MCPS in recent years so screw off with your utter crap.

Don't worry. It just seems that way because of all of the corruption.

Oh honey, you keep posting about how great your 5 kids are but you are so out of touch with what is going on in MCPS. Perhaps you were sheltered in the magnet and AP classes but for most kids, MCPS is failing them.

Ok rage issues. If you have already had that many kids in college, I’d bet the house it wasn’t very recent that they were at MCPS. A lot has changed very very quickly for the worse in two years. Again, everyone is different. I don’t care if my kid goes to an Ivy League school. State U is great with me. I am not impressed by where your kids went to college. At all. Especially after reading your rant. I just want my kids educated in a safe environment where there is discipline and appropriate rigor or support for their level whatever that may be. I imagine that is what most parents want. We tried hard and couldn’t find that at MCPS anymore. Good luck to OP figuring it all out.

You are absolutely nuts. I can't understand what your fear of other parents talking about their negative experiences with MCPS is rooted in. Do you think it will harm your kids, who you say have already been accepted to elite colleges and universities?

And again: If your kids graduated from MCPS a while ago, why are you still invested? Why are you here? Also: Why can't you accept that maybe the system was better when your kids were in it and that it might have declined after they left? You're not making any sense.

Because they want to get rid of the public school system.

I see it another way. Those calling MCPS out for its decline are the ones trying to save it. Those with their eyes closed are willingly driving the system into the ground.

It’s okay to see the decline. Acknowledgement is the only way to fix what’s broken.

(And I’m nowhere near a far right Trumper, but I’m sure I’m about to be called one.)

I see it another way. Those trying to help call out the challenges and applaud the positives AND they actually do things to try to help. They also acknowledge that change takes time.

You can see challenges without trying to tear down the system and folks in it trying to make improvements.

Do you ask people who praise MCPS to also always include commentary about how MCPS could and should improve?

No, you only squawk this crap at anyone who dares to share a negative experience with MCPS or criticize it.

How about you just engage with the merits of people's arguments, opinions and experiences and stop trying to create some ridiculous, fake-even-handed criteria that everyone must follow in order for their experiences to be valid in your narrow point of view. You are not the arbiter of what is true about MCPS so cut out the gate keeping.

You were also probably an involved parent who paid attention to your children and always found ways to ensure their success. The problem is many want those results but without any effort on their part.

Try again. My kids were both at MCPS post pandemic two years ago. I bet yours weren’t. First hand experience of all these things is why we left. I check this forum regularly because I’d tried to convince one of my kids to maybe give MCPS another try because that is still where his close friends are. He might be happier socially at MCPS but he has refused to go back saying it is unsafe chaotic and he won’t learn in that environment. The unhinged posters wearing blinders defending MCPS on this forum tells me sadly nothing is going to change. It makes me feel more secure about his decision. Thanks for making his point for him.

So your kids have been out of MCPS for at least 2 years, and you know it has changed for the worse in the last 2 years. How? How is your opinion relevant here?
BTW, I had one graduated 2 years ago and one is graduating this year from MCPS.

What makes your opinion more relevant than mine? I also have fresh experience in the system. Get over yourself. If I’m OP, you would be Case study #1 as to why MCPS might have serious issues. It always starts with the parents.
