principal vacancies 2024

They've posted five soon-to-be-vacant principal positions today: Blair and Damascus HS, Baker and Gaithersburg MS, and Clearspring ES.

Thought we could use a centralized thread to track the unusually large list of vacancies and any hiring developments, especially as it is likely to continue to grow. This list has the five schools above plus the 18 schools which currently have acting principals, indicated with asterisks. Have I missed any?

Some of these are schools where the principal wasn’t appointed last year so they are in this years pool for new principal.

Is the previous principal on leave and coming back, or gone permanently?

And note those acting principals were originally slated to be principal interns. So they’re doing the job of principal while also finishing any MCPS courses required to be an actual principal. Same for acting AP’s.

That may be the case for some of the acting principals, but not all.

Wow, this is horrible. There is no way to fill this many positions with qualified people which means untested and unqualified people stepping in at a time when our county really needs to turn things around.

I'm sure there will be more -- this is usually the start of the season where principals announce they are stepping down.

Who cares? There are also vacancies in any private company or government agency. Do you REALLY think people, particularly principals, are falling all over themselves to work in MCPS, given the likes of you people?? Ungrateful, entitled, broke, whiny, classist, racist, did I mention whiny? Where's the incentive? Other school districts aren't like this and believe it or not, there are much better school districts on the East Coast. You guys suck and you deserve what you get.

I know of at least one other elementary and one other high school, but they apparently haven’t announced yet.
