Beach week for seniors

Anonymous
My daughter and her friends want to go to OBX for beach week. None of the parents (us included) want to rent the a place for liability reasons. How do most teens handle this? Looks like air BnB’s and Vrbo and such have age requirements. And advice for how your kids did it is much appreciated.

Usually a fake ID, older sibling, hotel that is 18+, hostel. Really, this is not an issue to solve for your kids.

I mean they are going to get shitfaced and laid.

If you don't want to rent the place for liability reasons, why on earth are you letting your daughter go?

Ha! I originally said to my DD I didn’t want to post the question because I’ll just get crapped on. Didn’t take long!

Here we go. Every year we get parents who allow their kids to go and those who don’t.

Well I’m hoping this thread doesn’t turn into a debate. Just looking for how other kids have gone about finding housing - especially if they’re still 17.

In my kids' group, one of the parents agreed to rent the house. From what I gathered from my kids' friends, that's what most of the groups did - found a willing parent. If not, then the kids get an older sibling to go and supervise or an actual parent or they don't go.

In recent years I have seen groups of parents at local schools get creative. It doesn't have to be Beach Week or bust. So many of the coastal towns are up in arms about our hs students coming down in early summer- they have hired outside resources to patrol streets, etc to try to catch our kids. Some parents have arranged trips to other places to avoid some of this. The kids can still have fun. Takes a little more guidance from the parents.
To answer OP question about signing the lease- I have not found a way to work around the lease when renting a place.

So asking a legitimate question is getting “crapped on.” Got it. 😒

I think the “why on earth” really sells it.

Outer Banks towns are absolutely looking for this. My neighbor’s kid got kicked out of her rental on day 2 last year when the leasing company checked to see if the adult on the lease was staying at the house. The family received no money back, and beach week ended on day 2 of 7.

We aren’t allowing our senior to go this year. It just sends a bad message. I don’t want our child to think rules don’t apply to her before she heads off to college.
