Submitted our appeal document in May, the deadline was June 1. No news yet. Has anyone already received a decision letter from the County? I wonder if we get it before the school year ends in a week....Will there be another orientation for those who get accepted after appealing? |
No and I think no on the orientation. The whole thing is messed up. |
If anyone gets a letter, please post so we know they went out. I thought I recalled someone saying if your child doesn't get in, you don;t get a letter --which doesn't make sense to me. |
Pretty sure it is no on the orientation. |
There is definitely not a 2nd orientation, at least not at our school (Louise Archer) and I can't imagine the other schools put one on either.
Frankly, the orientation is not that great. If your kid gets in on appeal, just go to the open house before school starts, meet the teacher, walk around the school, find the library, cafeteria, etc. There are tons of new kids entering the Center schools in 3rd grade & they all take a few days to learn their way around. Having missed the orientation is really not a big deal. Good luck to all of you waiting on appeal decisions! |
Just curious what others think. We appealed but are kind of on the fence as to whether we would actually send DD if she gets in on appeal. We appealed because we don't think her current school is doing a good job engaging her but we're not sure if the GT center is the best place (she's a 97th percentile kids, so on the cusp of gifted, technically, if the cut of is 98th percentile). We wanted to have options. Do you think the principal or GT coordinator (or whatever they have) would be willing to meet with us and discuss DD and whether the GT center is the right place? Which person is the correct person to meet with? |
Contact the AART (advanced academic resource teacher) at the Center school. |
Well, I thought that the orientation at our GT Center was great. It sure beat the orientation they did for Local Level IV at our base school. |
10:39: I liked the LA orientation. I could have done without the tour, because LA is our base school. But the QA session was great.
And I respect the decision not to have any 3rd grade teachers there: they have lives. I was a little put off by the tone of some of the questioners, though. But I though the kids did a great job helping. For us, there was no decision: since dd goes to LA, LLIV is not an option. As for appeals, assuming they take the appeals seriously (which I believe they do), give them time...they have only had the paper work for two weeks. |
do tell! |
06:26 here:
One person was aggressively critical of the Principal because none of the teachers were there....Basically, " how can we know who to request if we do not know the teachers"....One parent was badgering on that issue. Mrs. M (principal) said that they could not make it. The AAP resource teacher was there (first time in front of students coming back from maternity leave...my DD was delighted to see her), a 4th grade and a sixth grade teacher, as well as a cross section of students. Hey, the teachers have lives. |
Just received the acceptance letter today, after we submitted the appeal document May 25. |
We got DC's letter today as well. DC got in. Now we have to figure out if that's really what's best. ![]() ![]() |
We received the letter today as well. DS got in. Need to decide base school or GT center. |
I received acceptance letter yesterday for DD. We submitted paper work around May 27th. Her NNAT was 140, COGAT - 150 (nonverbal), GBRS - 10. In the appeal, submitted WISC IV score (132), recomendation letters from her Tennis, dance coach, submitted her art work and a heartfelt letter from the parent. She got in and I am happy for her. |
