Microwave - plate gets hot, not the food

Does this happen to anyone? I put a plate with something frozen in it in the microwave and when it's done the plate is super hot and the food is still cold? What is that all about?

Then dont use the plate you're using.

You have to find some plates/containers that are made for the microwave (don't heat up). I use the IKEA 365 series (they are white containers with red lids).

If the plate is getting too hot (and the food is not) it isn't a microwave-safe plate. There are tests you can do for cups and bowls (involve heating a cup/bowl of water and see if it gets too hot before the water boils or something), but I'm not sure of the equivalent for a plate.

Melamine does this. It's the material they make old fashioned cafeteria trays or kids dishes out of. Does not heat the food whatsoever. Don't use it in the microwave.

You should only use glass in the microwave.

Yup, melamine is notorious for this. Heat the food on glass or china and transfer it to the kiddie plate at the table.

hmmm they are Pottery Barn plates, bowls and cups. Seems odd that they wouldn't be microwave safe but maybe I just need to use pyrex or something when I'm heating stuff in the future.

If they are plastic like, they are definitely melamine or melamine/bamboo mix.

OP poster here...no they aren't plastic..they are the regular dinner plate type plates. It's just strange. They say microwavable on the back. Didn't know if it was something with my microwave or with the plates.

I wonder how the microwave knows the difference between the plate and the food?

Sorry don't agree with the responses.

My microwave was working 100% , heating food and not the plate, irrespective of the plate type.

Recently it's the other way around. It must have something to do with the micro-wave, I will reply once I've recieved it back from LG.

It's definitely NOT the plate type.
