Biden wins the 25 states and DC that he won in 2020, adds NC, and wins NE-2 and ME-2 = 320 EV. |
IF we get there, then yeah, Trump will be president, and his VP will be the new vice president. The house is 26-22-2(tie). Even if Ds get the two tie breakers, it will still be 26-24. There are no states where there is a close R-D representative slate that can be flipped D. Short of I don't know, flipping the Dakotas (with 1 rep each), there is no way for Ds to get the majority of state delegations. |
Agree. Some of the campus unrest is infiltration by “professional” rioters which has obviously made it more dangerous for everyone. More saliently though, younger voters are concerned about women’s, minorities, and lgbt rights and Trump’s and SCOTUS’ promise to roll them back. All politics is local. |
The number of people who vote on foreign policy is incredibly low even when we're at war. It makes people feel dumb. I see no reason why Gaza would be different. It doesn't really impact most voters in the slightest. Even for those who care, when push comes to shove, I'm not sure Gaza alone will be the #1 issue. |
I wonder reading these threads how many of you have 17-24yos? They are not excited. Which is a MASSIVE understatement. I know kids who are 18 who have never been to a protest who are refusing Starbucks and other corps who support Israel (I hadn’t even known this was a thing). I know kids who are 18 who say they will sit out their first election. Abortion will be a biggie IF the stars align and they are willing to stand in line for the 3-5 hours it took to vote on campuses in 2020. |
Two dysfunctional parties are a disaster for hundreds of millions of Americans and billions worldwide. I’m not apologizing for that, especially not for boomer middlebrows on DCUM. -An old grey haired person who remembers the USSR’s gerontocracy and so is very embarrassed by our present politics. |
Pp here. Yeah I have two of them. I’ve seen them go from “I’m not going to vote” and “blow the rotten system up” to alarm that Trump could get re-elected and bring project 2025 to fruition. I don’t think Gaza is going to get most of them to the polls and Trump is hardly the answer on that. But you’re right that it will be tough to get the vote out among that age group because they seem to have so much going on. As you say, hopefully the stars align. |
Young people are voting with their feet. The number of college applications to traditional red state universities has skyrocketed during the Biden administration. Why do you think that’s the case? |
Our Israel policy is the purest expression of the elite corruption in recent decades AND it’s actually being discussed openly for once, in spite of the aggressive suppression efforts. I wouldn’t count on sort of ‘but it’s never happened before’ saving anyone’s bacon. |
18-24 year olds have always been unreliable voters at best and don’t turn out in huge numbers compared to the middle aged and elderly. |
I mean college kids aren't excited about anything right beyond finals, parties, and summer. Protest rallies are an activity. The election is 6+ months out. It's not even meaningfully on people's radars right now, let alone college students. |
The weather? Because they got admitted? It's certainly nothing to do with politics. |
The guy in the perfectly clean vest and hard hat is totally the guy who owns the construction company and drives a $90K pickup truck (gotta get that bonus depreciation!). I'm sure he works with his hands.....using Quick Books and refreshing his brokerage account. Absurd. |
It's higher on the list among key constituencies in places like Michigan. But posts like this are pointless eight months out. The campaign hasn't even begun. The polls tell us very little. It IS pretty clear PP is worked up about some fringe issues, however. And, BTW, "Biden" didn't "ban" TikTok. The Congress voted for that. And right-wingers have screamed the loudest about banning it forever. |
