Interesting. Again everything and the kitchen sink. White lotus pulled that off but it was making fun of them all. Not everyone abusing everyone. |
I have a million nicknames for my husband. It would never occur to me to affectionately call him Nipple. |
Yeah this was weird He says it though, he reports the stalker but not the rapist |
I kind of agree, and she seemed to come out of no where but she was a very talented, beautiful actress. I enjoyed her performance. |
In the actress a bio male now trans woman? Teri? |
During Donny's on-stage breakdown, he blames his situation on his deep self-loathing. While that is likely true at some level, and did lead to many destructive behaviors, it was his deep need to be "desired" - via fame, via an unhealthy relationship with an abusive groomer, via him leading on a clearly unstable stalker, that really guided so many of his bad decisions. He was willing to put himself in physical danger as long as he got that dopamine hit from what he viewed as being wanted. The Terri character read him for filth during their breakup scene. |
It got way too gross and disturbing. Shock value.
The first few episodes were comical. It fell off a ledge and the guy wanted to be abused. |
There was a journalist in the Daily mail today saying after interviewing the "real Martha" she started phoning him multiple times per day and being abusive. So his own kids are now calling him "Daddy Reindeer"
haha! |
I just started it and watched episode 1. It’s clear she’s deranged and psychotic. Why can’t he stay away? I get they’re both broken people but she’s seriously broken and mentally disordered. He’s just down and out. Why can’t he just shut up and stay away? Sounds like things get much, much worse. In an unrealistic fashion. Most people, even underemployed ones, would have made up a girlfriend or told her to gtfo of here. |
He was a failed comedian /showbiz wannabe working as a bartender and living in his ex girlfriends mothers house . It’s no stretch he would enjoy admiration. |
Didn’t seem like admiration.Seemed like an obese, deranged pathological liar stalker weirdo with psycho emails. Like the kind who would freak out and kill you.
Her mental breakdown episode in the cafe was total confirmation. She’s a rager. He knew it. Then walk off and leech on to a new “intrigued” or “bored” or naive victim. I’m a little worried her stalking him to comedy contest and pitching in weaseled her way back in. Yuck. |
I’ve done three episodes, don’t understand why he’s falling for such a sob story, why he did dating a trans website, why he’s not informing the police after the carpet bombing of emails and in person stalking. Maybe there have been a couple foreshadowed questions from a couple characters, alluding to abuse or serious trauma as a child. But the fat lady is clearly insane and potentially violent. |
Oh boy. So it’s another Loser Meets Loser movie. |
I think sometimes, in real life the bad stuff becomes the thing you hang your identity on. So you cling to it in order not to be invisible, to remain defined by something.
And I think that is at the root of his story. |
Lots of people reinvent their identity, for better or worse.
My friends husband vowed to not be a toxic negative jerk like his father was, and has been very proactive father and husband. This movie sounds more like trauma chains and codependency. Main character calls himself “empathetic” multiple times but it’s not that. He wants to be a savior, he wants a connection, he wants to recreate his terrible past. It’s all he knows I guess. Can’t break the pattern. |
