How old are your kids? It makes a difference between four and 14 for example. Although I realize 14 year olds wouldn't call it a play date.

Depends on the kid and the relationship. Some are 2 hours. Some are 6 (these are like super close neighbor friends who can play all day...not some.random kid from school I don't know)

two hours is good start. You want them wanting more not overdoing it. For the older kid maybe longer.

Totally depends on the kids but if they haven’t had a playdate yet / recently with these kids, 2 hours.
Same ages, we have some friends that could just hang out all day and some that are on a pretty strict 2-hr limit. Mostly for me it’s a function of how destructive small boys sometimes are…

Depends on the activity. 1 - 3 hours

My 9 year old has friends over for 2-4 hours to play. We call them play dates only because the parents have to coordinate the drop off and pick up. For the most part, the kids just play in different parts of the house. We normally have kids over on the weekend in the afternoon.

You can set the time limit at whatever you are comfortable with.

Preschool - 2 hours
Elementary - 2-3 hours

I hate people who overstay.

If I’m staying (like pre-k aged kid) I start giving the wrap up warning around 1.5 hours in (usually around the point the kids are getting restless and might stop for a snack) and then gone by 2 hours. I feel like that is long enough for someone to host and have noticed most other families do the same at our place. For drop off elementary play dates, I ask what time they’d like me to pick up. Generally 2-3 hours is on target. It depends on the activity/time of day (e.g. a mid day get together with lunch served will likely be longer than a play date starting between 3-4 pm since people have to start dinner/bedtime routine).

Depends on the age and the kids. My upper elementary kids have longer play dates. 2 to 4 hours. My younger preschoolers nhave playdates that are up to 2 hours. If the kids play well unsupervised I tend to let things go a lot longer than I would if they didn't play well I supervised.

Our play dates frequently last a whole day. Drop the kid off in the morning, pick up before dinner. We are European, however, and our kids go to an international school.
