SUMMARY:Jane Franklin Dance and Lloyd House Gardens Present Moving Stories
DTSTART:20240926T223000Z

DESCRIPTION:Moving Stories is a movement-based work that is about hist
orical Lloyd House and its Gardens\, not as a static landmark\, but ra
ther as a place where people of different generations interact. The pe
rformance resonates with the landscape and references the site's histo
ry. Lloyd House\, built in 1796\, has housed many prominent people an
d is important to the streetscape of Washington Street\, part of Georg
e Washington Memorial Parkway. The architecture of the building\, the
people who have lived there\, and the changing community surrounding i
t\, makes the location important to ALX275\, the City of Alexandria’
s 275th Anniversary.\n\nThe landscape of the Lloyd House Gardens is de
fined by areas of soft greenery\, unyielding surfaces and negative spa
ce. For this performance\, movement interacts with a sound score laye
red with statements about the landmark’s history and its current rol
e in Alexandria. \n\nPeople of all ages may participate in a pre-perfo
 rmance workshop. (Preps)
