 lace in the world’s most dangerous places and his pursuit to join th
 e ranks of combat-tested war correspondents. The learning curve of rep
 orting in hostile environments is steep and at times comical\, at othe
 rs nearly fatal. He encounters a lot of dust\, ragged infrastructure\,
  weaponry\, scary driving\, whiskey\, lust\, and way too much food poi
 soning. When the assignment ends\, he is left to confront the mental a
 nd emotional impact of the years of danger\, death\, and destruction.\
 n\nABOUT THE AUTHOR:\nSean Carberry is a Peabody Award-winning journal
 ist\, foreign policy writer\, and author of Passport\nStamps: Searchin
 g the World for a War to Call Home\, a memoir of his journey through w
 ar zones as a\npublic radio journalist en route to becoming NPR’s la
 st Kabul-based correspondent.\n\nSean became a journalist in the month
 s before 9/11\, and since then he has traveled to dozens of\ncountries
  to report on conflicts\, uprisings\, elections\, independence movemen
 ts\, and development\nefforts in places like Iraq\, Libya\, Sudan\, an
 d Yemen.\n\nCurrently\, he covers the defense industry as managing edi
 tor of National Defense Magazine and writes about foreign policy and i
 nternational affairs on Substack.\n\nIn addition to his journalism car
 eer\, Mr. Carberry served in the Department of Defense Office of\nInsp
 ector General as managing editor of a portfolio of public and classifi
 ed reports on wars and counterterrorism operations in Afghanistan\, Ir
 aq and Syria\, the Philippines\, and Africa.\n\nPrior to entering jour
 nalism\, Mr. Carberry was a recording engineer and producer in the Bos
 ton area.\nHe received a Gold Record for his engineering work with Sus
 an Tedeschi and taught at Berklee\nCollege of Music.\n\nHe has a B.A. 
 from Lehigh University and an M.P.A. from the Harvard Kennedy School. 
 He lives in\nWashington\, D.C. with his cat Squeak who he rescued from
