He is a five-time nominee for Stage Magician of the Year, a 2006 Fellowship recipient at Hollywood’s famed Magic Castle and he served as scriptwriter and magic consultant to the legendary Orson Welles. In 2010, Rich opened Dickens Parlour Theatre in Millville, Delaware, which has quickly become a favorite entertainment spot for both local residents and tourists, as well as a much desired venue for performing magicians from all over the world. He wrote the iconic "I'm Your Captain (Closer to Home)," "Some Kind Of Wonderful," and the hit "Bad Time," which became the last of the band's four singles to reach the top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. By 1971, Grand Funk achieved a major milestone by equaling the Beatles' Shea Stadium attendance record and selling out the venue in just 72 hours, whereas the Beatles' concert took weeks to sell out. Farner is of Native American descent and received the Lakota Sioux Elders Honor Mark in 1999. Members of the Lakota Nation later honored him with a hand-made ceremonial quilt.
