It's just so interesting how many people said "you can choose to hire whoever you want blah blah blah" when someone said they turned down an overweight nanny. But now it's a travesty to pick and choose when the nanny has permanent ink she chose to put all over her body.

Your opinion means nothing to any of us. If you think they're trashy, don't get tattoos. I have 4 and I don't give a flying fuck what you think. End of story.

That's the sad part. If you want to walk around with tattoos all over your body, then deal with people judging you. It isn't cute or good looking, it's trashy looking. I'm 24 and I would NEVER think to put that on my body. It's not attractive at all. I don't care what the "meaning" is to you. Also, no matter what you say, it WILL keep you from getting some jobs.

It's not sad that some of us don't give a crap what judgmental girls like you think, it's you that's sad. Judging people is wrong, didn't your parents ever teach you that??

Sure, judging people is wrong but EVERYONE judges. We live in a country that is VERY judgmental. Whether it be sex, skin color, weight, height, appearance, style, etc. People judge. However, I don't judge people on their style or skin color, etc. I do judge on tattoos because they just come off as being VERY, VERY low class to me. Do you ever see CEO's, lawyers, doctors, etc. with body tattoos? No. So hey, if you want to have a low income job working at McDonalds or in retail, then go ahead...get all of the tattoos you want.

Nanny here. I have 4 tattoos. Three of them are visible. I work for an attorney and a physician making very good money, and they never have mentioned anything negative about my tattoos. When I got my fourth, they thought it was awesome. Neither of them have tattoos. I've never had any problems getting or securing a job because of my tattoos. If any family decided not to hire me because of my tattoos, I don't care, because I don't want to work for those people anyways. You shouldn't judge a nanny because of her tattoos, size, skin color, etc. you should judge her by her references, demeanor, morals, and how they interact with your children.

I'm a Director at a large organization. I have tattoos. I know many C-level executives with tattoos. Clearly, the PP who thinks they are low class or trashy doesn't get out much.

Tattoos aren't any more of a moral issue than short hair or pierced earrings. If some small minded and bigoted MBs want to discriminate against you for something so minor, that has no bearing at all on your ability to do your job, nannies, consider yourself lucky to have dodged a bullet.

There is no need to tolerate foolish bigotry.

I am a nanny w/no tattoos and a nose stud.

I have to admit, during interviews I am a little self-conscious of my nose piercing. I sometimes even pop in a clear stud for interviews.

I do not want to be judged by my piercing...please do not let it define me because I am so much more than a nose ring.

However, I completely would understand if a family didn't hire me because of it.

Different strokes for different folks.

Doctors, lawyers, business professionals don't have tattoos? HAHAHA how long have you been isolated from the real world? I know plenty of doctors who have tattoos, my successful employers have tattoos, I have tattoos, my parents, uncle and aunts have tattoos. I was joking with my employer the other day about how the nurse drawing blood from her daughter was so quick and gentle because he has a full sleeve and understands the pain of needles.

You can judge me all you want, i'm used to it. But I'll try my best not to judge you back to harshly for your ignorance. Here is some advice, go make some friends outside of your tiny bubble. It might open your eyes to a boarder range of personalities and lifestyles that might actually make you question your own views. Go see the world, lady.
