It’s not about settling, PP. You made a ridiculous comparison. Personally I have both free lunch and full healthcare. But it was never an either or situation in my mind!

You’re very fortunate, pp. Many nannies have to pay for their own despite being full-time employees.

Exactly. Nannies need to focus on benefits, not small perks that don’t affect their health and welfare.

This makes me so sad. So so so sad. I find it hard to swallow (no pun intended) that some people won't provide an effin sandwich for the people who are singing to and rocking their kids to sleep, wiping their butts, teaching them their first words...

I grew up not wealthy and in another country--we were always fine but not wealthy and I never encountered this kind of attitude until I moved up the income chain. Now I know and work with people like this, without any ability to emphatize with others. Someone at work actually complained about their kids' nanny eating some cookie or something. I was so shocked i didn't say anything. Now I wonder if they also keep track of what their spouse eats or how many toilet paper squares they use. Sounds miserable to me...

Food and music are for sharing, everyone should know that, their lives would be happier.

OP, if I were you, I'd probably think about looking for another position although I have to admit I have no idea how widespread this attitude is.
