Start work at 7am, get two kids ready for school
8:45 walks kids to school
9-3:30 probably spends one hour or less cleaning house, rest is free time
3:40 picks up kids and walks them home
3:45-7pm watches kids, makes dinner, cleans up after dinner. Takes kids to sports 1-2x/week.
Also covers early release, snow days, sick days.
If I want to hire someone for this schedule, what should I expect to pay? Current nanny works for minimum wage (VA/$7.25).
If your sitter can't accept another job commitment during her "free time", it's not free time. Let's be honest.

I pay $15 for a baby sitter, I would assume a full time nanny should command a much higher salary. To pay a live in nanny minimum wage...absolutely insane. OP, I would try another third world country and sponsor a new live in. You're never going to find an american that is willing to work for such a wage. I made more money than that when I was 16 and waiting tables in a diner.
Also, to the poster who said the nannies in this thread were being "disrespectful," get off your high horse. Why do you think they owe you respect?
You don’t believe people should be respectful of others? I get it that it’s an anonymous board for people to vent but I still think there’s no reason to tell someone to “not have children if they can’t afford it”. The concept of affordability and the choice to have children is personal to every family. You need to get off your rude horse. I could add here that you should not have children when you are clearly incapable of teaching them good manners and bring a productive member of society - but I won’t
I don't believe that the nannies on here owe the "mom bosses" some kind of special respect, no. And I also don't believe anyone has to show respect for someone who has clearly preyed on an older woman from a third world country.

Anonymous wrote:it is also not $2,000 a month. it is $1,160. everyone who is happy to pretend that the family paying taxes for her is giving her a raise is acting like she is taking home that money. she is not.

Oh well then taking home $7.25 changes everything, she’s making excellent money! Everyone should want this position. And based on all the ppl claiming that this isn’t a bad rate OP will have live in nannies breaking down the door. You’d take this position right?
It changes so much! I don’t know what you’re complaining about. I’d be one of the nannies busting down the door!![]()
Then you should be contacting OP.
Exactly.
