No one allows you to run their background checks, until there's a firm job offer, "pending satisfactory background checks."

I have excellent credit but I don't let employers run it. They can easily see I have a clean criminal background and zero driving offenses, not to mention my references. If that isn't enough to convince you to trust me not to steal from your home it wasn't going to work out anyway.

They should be allowed to run a check only AFTER you have a WRITTEN job offer, pending clear criminal checks. And they have given you THEIR references.
