I've had 2 different 24 hour jobs, 1 in NYC and the other in LA.

First was a very wealthy family in NYC. I worked 5 days a week starting with infant twins. Parents both worked a ton and were hardly ever around. There was a weekend nanny as well. I had the monitor and was the one to get up with the babies at night.

Second was a high net worth/high profile family in LA. Oldest child had special needs and there were at least 4 nannies on staff. I worked 4 days a week here. DB was retired and MB didn't work. Very difficult job as MB was crazy and had went through a lot of nannies. Children were sweet, but had a difficult time adjusting to a new nanny every 4-6 months.

I'm a 24hr nanny for NY billionaires. I'm on duty 24/6. I'm with children the while time, basically a proxy parent responsible for everything related to the child. Huge responsibility. Parents don't have "real" jobs- just go to business "meetings" sometimes at family's office. They see their kids on average 15 minutes a day. They go out to socialize almost every night. They never tell me when, where, and when they will be back. Of course they have a Sunday nanny. But I have to say, they are great employers and great parents- they love their children, and pay someone excellent to look after their children. Because this is an anonymous site. I earn $625 a day and think I should get more, but happy all the same.

My first nanny job was 24/7

Parents owned a business that kept them traveling 90% of the time. I lived in the home, took care of the 5 kids as well as pets, bills, doctor appts, car, shopping, school functions and activities.
If we would I would fly the kids to the parents so it wasn't long stretches without seeing them.
The kids have a great relationship with their parents now - oldest ones are in college, younger ones in middle and high school. Parents sold their business and work from home now (this started 6 years ago) kids and parents have a great relationship with me, even though I stopped working for them.5 years ago.

If you don't need a 24 hour nanny, "MB", why are you so curious? Your questions sound like you are trolling to get nannies to complain about parents who choose to have 24 nannies. That's pretty lame.

MB here. I'm curious--for the '24 hour' nanny--really, do the parent(s) not spend any time with the kids? Are you there all night? is this fora special needs child who needs full time attention all the time? is this for single (wealthy) parents who work all the time I don't understand. I'm not trying to be snarky, just trying to understand who hires a 24 hour nanny...and wonder what the kid's relationship with parent(s) is like

$1040 net in NYC is at least $1619 a week, which is $325/day. A little low for 24 hour care, but not unheard of. And yes, I've had more than one 24 hour position in both NYC and California.

Yes, but it's still like $12 an hour. A great high-end nanny in NY can and should earn 400-600+ a day. If an average rate in NY is $20 an hour, you should make at least $2690 a week- What is $1750 NET. IMO, still a low wage for giving up your life.

That's not usually how a 24 hour nanny jobs work. There are very few 24 jobs that pay over $500/day, especially to start (Newborn Care Specialst jobs are different). I started at $475/day in my last 24 hour job and this was considered very high. My normal schedule was 4 days a week, so my base salary was almost 100k. I actually made more because I was the one who traveled with them, so in the end worked more days. There are not that many nannies making more than 100k per year.

Interesting to see the spread here. I think our nanny would probably prefer cash to gift cards, but maybe I am wrong. Thanks for posting - it helps me understand if we are paying fairly.

She has been working for 7 months. Thought this seemed fair, slightly less than a full weeks pay but she has worked less than a year. two weeks paid vacation over the holiday.
