We let our nanny set the price 10p-6a) otherwise her normal hourly rate. She said $50 and we paid her $100. She must be happy with it as she has done it several times.

I charge hourly until 10pm because I am still required to stay
At the house, so I charge until my bedtime, not the kids’. Then I charge $100 per overnight.

So, if you skip paying for 8 hours of the 24 nanny works, you're looking at 8 hours of base rate, plus 8 hours of OT. At $10/hour, that winds up being $200 for 24 hours of work.
Or you pay $10/hour for 8 hours, OT for 6 hours, and half pay for 10 sleeping hours, which is $80 + $90 + $50 = $220.
Is an additional 10% of pay per 24 hour period worth having a happy nanny to you?

Yes, but the unpaid time is strictly 8 hours out if a full 24 worked. Other folks are talking about paying a flat rate for 10-12 hours while the kids are sleeping. The extra of 4 hours of (likely overtime) pay if being strictly legal is likely similar if not better than the flat rate system.

This was posted on another thread about overnight care. Apparently you don't need to pay your nanny for overnight care at all!!!! Legally!!!! LOL
"If she can sleep, she legally does NOT need to be paid for those hours. We have a 24hr nanny, and we don't pay her for 8hrs because she can usually sleep those hours, unless our baby wakes up. But he only usually wakes up for a few minutes to take a bottle. We pay our nanny $20 an hour for 16 hrs a day. The great thing, it's legal!"

I don't really sleep when I know I'm "on call", so yeah, full rates.

I have lived in a few states. In lower paid areas (like where $14-$15/hr is the top pay for nannies), I have made $50-$75 for an overnight with kids who almost always sleep through the night. That payment is just from the time they fall asleep to when they wake up. All other time is my normal hourly rate. In higher paid areas, overnights are more like $75-$125, with the same scenario I described above. If they get sick during the night or are up a lot for some reason, hourly wage kicks in for those hours, since I am not sleeping much.

Is nanny allowed to sleep without imterruption? If so, lower rate bit of she has to be alert entire night if child needs her, then she should be paid her hourly rate and OT if applicable. If you are saying child is asleep then that kid better sleep the whole night
