There is no "tax rate for bonuses."
Your income is all taxed at the applicable rate(s) for your income More gets taken out of a lump sum payment like a bonus because it appears to be a larger check knocking you into a higher tax bracket. It will even itself out when you do your taxes.
You don't get "knocked into a higher tax bracket " bc you received an extra or larger check one single time. That's a ridiculous thought. Bonuses are indeed taxed at a higher rate. Mine as a nanny are, as are my DH's much larger bonuses.
Some people are given cash, which is not taxed at all.
Seems you are a little naive to accounting. There are tables/charts / computer programs that are used - the dollar amount of the cheque is what is taxed. So it's taxed at whatever bracket it falls should you make that amount all year. It will even out when you do your taxes and you'll likely get some of that money back.
No dear, you do not get knocked into a higher tax bracket when you receive an additional check for less that a typical check would be. Bonuses are indeed taxed at a different rate. You are obviously not an accountant. Next time do a quick Google search prior to "correcting" a stranger on the internet.
NP and CPA, bonuses are not taxes at a special rate, your bonus is part of your income taxes at your overall tax rate for the year. You look a little foolish defended something you clearly don't understand.
