It's incredibly classist to judge people based on their work. Child care is a profession. When people just you for it it just demonstrates an archaic prejudiced belief around "the help." Good, honest work should not be means to snub someone.

We all have different opportunities, abilities, and privilege in life. It's beyond me why adults think its okay to judge other adults based on their income. Be kind, everyone is fighting their own battle.

A job is a job, IMO! Any work you have to do that is not allowing you to be in your own home, dictating your own decisions and actions, is hard. You cant fully relax/be yourself at any job, despite how much you may love or enjoy it, therefore it is still WORK.

Yes exactly!!! Is it fun sometimes? Do I love the kids? Of course! But it is a job. It can also be stressful and overwhelming. It takes a lot of mental energy (and sometimes physical if the baby won't let me put her down all day lol).

The other day we were discussing jobs class and I mentioned what I did. This girl goes, "Wow I'd kill to trade with you I have a 12 hour shift tomorrow." I told her I did also. She said, "Yeah well I work in an adult care center at least you don't have to clean up their poop." I explained that yes, actually I do- 2 aren't potty trained yet. She then said, "Oh well it's baby poop that's different."

Jesus, whine much? We all have jobs and we all get tired. I have no interest in competing to see who has it worse.

I think part of it is the area you live in. Let's face it, most people in major cities place a huge emphasis on careers and career advancement. Which is why i think some "look down" on nannies because they see it as a dead end job. I'm not a nanny but in my career,I'm at the point where I am happy,make a good amount of money,and have a fantastic work/life balance. I have ZERO desire to advance in my field. I've received several rude comments from people about this.

I have never been outwardly dissed, but I read the looks. And every last one of them change their attitude when they learn my salary... which happens in passing after months or even years of judgement.

Almost anyone can work in fast food, retail... But only people who love children and have that natural born gift can be nannies
