Go back and read what you have written. Your assertion that you would have known is repeatedly made. No one needs to put words in your mouth.
Oh, and I have read both the Gift of Fear and Protecting the Gift. Your belief that the Krims would look at their depressed nanny and know she meant their kids harm is insane. Really. You are ignorant about so many things, but unles you are Marina Krim, you should shut your stupid trap now.

Oh please, we all know you're the poster running around saying the parents SHOULD have known better. Suggesting this book in this thread implies quite strongly that you believe if the Krims had listened to their gut they'd have fired Ortega, and that is something you simply cannot know.

The crazy woman needs to read:
"Protecting the Gift"
about child safety.

Because I've been practicing, and of course, studying my specialty "forever", I am able to fully "guarantee" any parent the complete and total safety of their child, based on verifiable past experience, (in so much as humanly possible, and then some). Each and every former family will attest to that fact.
Mind you, I am not saying that a random UFO will never drop down on us, but you get the picture, don't you? If anything should EVER happen to a child in my care, it would NOT be because I "should have" or "could have".
Now, do you have a better understanding of MY vigilance?
I understand that I hold myself to the highest standard possible, which may not be practical for most parents, or nannies, for that matter.
More than anything, I hope that every parent can learn something from the unbelievable tragic fate of these two poor children. If you are not seeing "eye-to-eye" with the nanny, make sure you work it out. If not, TERMINATE. Immediately. Either that, or refine your wishes. But, never, NEVER leave your child with a person who is behaving "off". Learn to trust your gut. Nothing is more important than your child's basic safety. Nothing. Ever. Not even your "second income" that you think your family can't live without.
Spare us all this rationalization for blaming the mother instead of the nanny. I get it - you are a nanny, too, so you have to blame the mother. Good to know why you are so determined to find her at fault. But you still are on record as saying that parents are responsible if their children are murdered because parents bear the basic responsibility for their safety.
FYI: the nanny was being cranky and stressed - not brandishing guns or talking about the voices in her heads. No rational person would leap to the conclusion that she was planning to stab her charges. You think you can judge that with the benefit of your "expertise" but you are just delusional. You get to look at what happened and pretend that you would have known. But that is just complete and utter bull. So get off your judgmental high horse before some parent righteously slaps you for your insolence.

Any intelligent person determines what is reasonable risk.
When it comes to the basic safety of young children, that's when most adults give the most consideration, realizing that little children are at high risk.
Some parents prefer to believe that parenting is no big deal, and, well, any one can do it, without much thought.
Ok. Good luck to you, because I guess that's all some of you might have, IF you're lucky.
You really just don't get it. Those are the words of a sanctimonious moron. You would think morons would be more humble, but I guess not.
Why do you keep avoiding the issue at hand?
Do you think parents bare any responsibility for the basic safety of their children??
Answer it.
