I work part time, about 30 hours. Working less would make the economics worse, because if it takes 40 hours of childcare for me to cover 30 hours and a commute, it would take me 30 hours to cover 20, for example. Plus, I work when the kids are in school, at the school that they attend. So, for example, if I was able to leave at one, I'd be going home, getting the baby and putting him/her in the car to go back through carpool line.


You are basically going to pay a nanny your entire salary. If you want to continue at your job many women do that so when kids are all in school they have their job. Others drop out as child care costs vs. income post tax doesn't make it worth working. Choice is completely yours.

OP, for many families opting to go the nanny route, they break even the first few years. One parent's salary goes straight to childcare.

Most choose this still because a gap in time where they aren't working will prevent career growth.

As a teacher, you don't have that same issue. Teachers are often in demand.

Since you stayed home with your first three, it may be that you want to be home for the fourth.

I asked as I’m interested in this type of schedule. Is there a way I can contact you privately? I’m currently working now, but my contract will be up in July (temp job due to covid) and I don’t want my current employer if they stumble across this think I’m looking for other work.


I am not even due till July, and I’ll take my 12 weeks of leave after school starts so I would be looking for mid November. I’m happy to post contact info then but my guess is you’ll have something new then.
