I couldn’t disagree more. OP sounds extremely bright to me and truly loves her former charges. She wasn’t screwed - the job ended. All nanny jobs end. OP is going to get a great reference and an ongoing relationship with the children she helped raise.

Op here. Thank you so much for your kind words. And most of all thank you for helping me to not engage that person, they are really working hard to get under my skin and plant doubt.
Either way I’m pleased I still have my charges in my life and though I was hurt at the short notice they essentially paid me to not work and look for a job with no rush. I don’t think anything under handed was going on and as far as their finances go, well Mb works in corporate for the school that the youngest started daycare at so I’m sure she’s paying next to nothing and I’m grateful that even though she had that option all along she has always kept me vs taking advantage of the discounted childcare.
I think your attitude is great OP, and your interpretation of how they handled it seems right on target. You're on track to have a long, lovely relationship w/ that family, AND to have their full support in your job search. Endings are usually hard, but it seems like you've gotten one of the best possible outcomes - I'm sure due in no small part to your own professionalism and positive attitude. Congrats!!

I’m interviewing with a few schools and families and my former employer expressed that if I get something for the first part of the day to let her know if I need hours to supplement my income and they will have me still get them from school here and there and watch them.
So, if theh can afford date nights, why can't they afford to keep you. They are liars!

A single date night doesn't constitute being able to keep someone employed for 50+ hours a week.

They did one date night and a work dinner. Affording a sitter is very different from being responsible for someone’s entire livelihood.
If money is tight, you Don't waste it by going out to dinner for any reason. OP was screwed by them and she is a cool for letting them use her for their convenience now.

I’m glad, OP. It’s so important to see the kids and stay on good terms. All the best in finding a new position. I know your new job will be great!
I am so grateful to my former employers for letting me go when they did. Had they not, I wouldn’t have gotten my current job which is the best I have ever had. My employers are both brilliant and kind and my charge is AMAZING.
