Obviously the answer to this one depends on the nanny....

This. I am a good and loving nanny but I need to spent time with my own family. Call if it is an emergency or you really need something. FaceTime with my charge if he truly needs to share with me but please keep it brief.

And I hope any parents reading these responses will understand that there are some loving Nannies out there who know their relationship w/their charge extends beyond their work day.

We do - because we've employed them. And in return we fully respect their privacy and do not intrude unless critically necessary (emergency) or adorably important (child wants to share something with a nanny who would love hearing it).

There are a lot more rational people on all sides of these scenarios than the dialogue on DCUM would lead one to believe! :_)
